🔎 Infrastructure investment in Europe: private investments are crucial to bridge Europe’s funding gap.   “Although public investment across Europe has surged in the wake of COVID, the uplift cannot reverse a decade of declining investment following the global financial crisis. AfDB’s hybrid capital first: A new funding tool for MDBs AfDB's highly anticipated $750 million 10.5-year perpetual non-call venture into hybrid capital has not only established a promising benchmark, but has also signalled what could be the first in a new lineage of MDB hybrid offerings, very much aligned with the G20 Capital Adequacy Framework (CAF) recommendations. In the latest feature, Uxolo's reporter Clara Browne-Amorim discusses the recent move by the African Development Bank to issue hybrid capital bonds, making it the first multilateral development bank (MDB) to do so. This innovative financing method allows AfDB to increase its lending capacity without significantly impacting its balance sheet, addressing the need for MDBs to find new ways to manage and raise capital to meet sustainable development goals. Despite some complexities, AfDB's issuance received positive market reception, indicating potential for further innovation in MDB financing.
