🌳 News from the Billion Tree Afforestation Support Project 🌳 DFS and WWF Pakistan have been supporting the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Climate Change, Forestry, Environment & Wildlife Department (CCFEWD) in #Pakistan as part of the Billion Tree Afforestation Support Project (BTASP). 🔦 Through the Pakistan-German Climate and Energy Partnership (PGCEP) and a generous grant of 13.5 million EUR, this initiative aims to ensure the sustainable use of forest resources, especially those established through the BTAP and 10-BTTP initiatives since 2015 in the KP Province. 🌿 Our approach involves empowering 100 local communities to sustainably manage and enhance their forest resources. The Forest Department will deploy field teams to continuously interact with these communities, culminating in a participatory forest resource management plan (PFRMP). Mobility is key for these planning teams. 🚙 Therefore, we're happy to announce that, following the provision of 36 motorbikes in early 2023, now 15 sturdy field vehicles were financed through the project’s disposition fund. On June 7, 2024, these vehicles were formally handed over by Project Director Mr. Junaid Dayar and DFS Team Leader Mr. Jörn Köckritz to the forest divisions involved, as well as to the CDE&GAD Directorate. #BillionTreeAfforestation #Sustainability #ClimateAction #CommunityEngagement

🌳News from the Billion Tree Afforestation Support Project 🌳 We and WWF Pakistan have been supporting the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Climate Change, Forestry, Environment & Wildlife Department (CCFEWD) in #Pakistan, as part of the Billion Tree Afforestation Support Project (BTASP). 🌟 This initiative, backed by the Pakistan-German Climate and Energy Partnership (PGCEP) with a grant of 13.5 million EUR, aims to ensure the sustainable use of forest resources, particularly those established through the BTAP and 10-BTTP initiatives since 2015 in the KP Province. 👀 Recently, a delegation from KfW has been deeply engaged in reviewing the project's progress. They witnessed firsthand the dedicated efforts of the BTASP Project Team in establishing participatory interactions with communities during the piloting phase. 🌿 Before the full rollout across 100 communities, our participatory forest resource management planning (PFRMP) approach is undergoing a rigorous reality check, focusing on key factors like community ownership, women's participation, good governance, and equity aspects. 🤝 The delegation was honored with a reception by the newly appointed KP Minister for CCFEWD, the honorable Fazal Hakim Khan. They commended the project team for their strategic thinking, innovation, diligence, and mindfulness, and appreciated the continuity of its professional composition. 👩👩👧👦 The KfW delegation emphasized the lighthouse function of this project in Pakistan, highlighting its unique combination of sustainable resource use, advocacy for good governance, and empowerment of women. 🌿 Official Launch of the MegARISE Project! 🚀 We are thrilled to announce the successful launch of the MegARISE Project, a collaborative effort supported by #KFW to safeguard the catchment areas in Umiew and Gano. The event took place on February 15, 2024, at the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) Shillong, with the honorable presence of Mr. Conrad K Sangma, the Chief Minister of Meghalaya, India. The event was attended by community members from the Khasi and Jaintia regions, state government officials and the Implementation Consultant from DFS, Germany. During the event Mr. Conrad K Sangma distributed cheques for Payment for Ecosystem Services, benefiting 1118 programme participants from the Khasi and Jaintia regions. He also launched the CM Connect programme, the Meghalaya Organic Mission, and remotely inaugurated processing units across the state. 🌿 Himachal Pradesh Forest Ecosystem Climate Proofing Project (HPFECPP) receives high level recognition from Germany 🇮🇳 🇩🇪 In the Himachal Pradesh Forest Ecosystem Climate Proofing Project, DFS Deutsche Forstservice has supported the Himachal Pradesh Forest Department (HPFD) for the last 7.5 years in utilizing a 30 million EUR loan through KfW. On Wednesday, a high level delegation from the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, the German Embassy in Delhi, the India Desk Manager at KfW and delegates from GIZ was hosted by the HPFD. They had the opportunity to witness the achievements in successfully reforesting, protecting and diversifying of 8,000 ha of forests in the northern part of the State of Himachal Pradesh through the active involvement of local communities. The delegation was cheerfully received by the members of two Village Forest Management Societies (VFMS), who proudly presented their physical achievements of forest, soil and water protection and newly developed sources of income. Through profound discussion between the community members and the delegation it became clear how much they had come to identify themselves with the measures. They underlined recognized their own benefits and demonstrated a great sense of ownership within the project, which promises sustainability through a lasting impact beyond the project duration. 🎉 As a highlight, expressions of gratitude from the communities and a positive impression from the German delegation resulted in a spontaneous cross-cultural exchange! 🤝 Check out the video here: https://lnkd.in/dZvTUjnM.
