Excellent point David Clubb - From my blog post on Government use of Fediverse: >The European Commission, the city of Amsterdam, and the nations of Germany, France, The Netherlands and Switzerland each operate their own ActivityPub service, most using Mastodon. US Members of Congress have created Fediverse accounts, as well as large numbers of academic communities and institutions. Even media companies like the BBC and Medium operate their own federated services. It's past time for the public sector to remain reliant on a fickle, North American company to decide if, when and how to deliver vital civic messaging. Practical guidance for agencies and NGOs available at: https://lnkd.in/gPkRf757 Let's push to allow the forward-thinking and fast-growing Fediverse community to find and follow the Welsh Government alongside Golwg 360, the EU Commission, and Barack Obama - all of whom publish in this space!
When will the public and third sector in Wales stand up and realise that their continued use of Twitter (X) as a 'default' communication channel implicitly empowers and enriches people who are actively undermining our Wales' Future Generations approach? There are totally viable alternatives such as Mastodon. Toot.Wales, for example embeds Future Generations values in its terms of use. What's App with Twitter? It's been a long time since I've been active on Twitter. And when that darling of far right 'libertarians' bought the platform giving it the X factor it sent a clear signal to anyone who really values freedom & democracy that it was long past time to move on. So it is hugely disappointing to see so many long term users who do genuinely value freedom and democracy clinging on to platform which has become anathema to both. Yes people have invested a great deal of themselves in building up their on-line presence and their loyal followings. But can that still be a justifiable reason to stay? Am I really saying this on LinkedIn in without the slightest trace of irony? And for slightly different reasons we can say much the same about those of us who are still using What's App. Here those who profess to hold people's personal data assacred regularly use a platform owned by a company which is widely known to be mining people's personal data for profit. The recent Covid enquiries have revealed that elected officials & staff have used What's App on a regular basis to communicate about highly sensitive government policy. Not to mention giving the platform access to all of our phones contact data. We all know facebook spies on us, so why do we think What's App doesn't? Imagine if instead of being owned by a Meta corporations X & What's App were Chinese owned. Would we still be trusting these platforms in the way that we do? If the social media platforms that we use are an extension of who we are in the real world into the virtual, then the platforms we are using say a great deal about how seriously we live by our values. They say a great deal about how much the values we profess to live by really matter to us. And yes, I am still on Facebook 🙄

X soars to new heights! X is at an all-time high usage and traffic. The platform is seeing record-breaking usage and traffic, officially making it the hottest place to be online right now. This news comes straight from the source, with the Chief Troll Officer himself giving it his seal of approval. What's behind this surge? Well, that's for you to discover. But one thing's for sure: X is where it's at. Keep up with the action and join the party! #x #twitter #wordpressdeveloper #technews #letsconnect

According to Nature, thousands of scientists are giving Twitter the bird and searching for new pastures to talk about science, research, and to share their work. A recent survey reveals scientists’ reasons for leaving the social-media platform now known as X, and what they are doing to build and maintain a sense of community. So what are good X/Twitter alternatives? For us, Blue Sky is the number one choice for ease of use and simplicity, followed by Mastodon, and finally, Threads (which we aren't keen on as it's not available in Europe). What are you doing with your X/Twitter account? What are you planning to do in the future? 🤔 Read the full details here: https://lnkd.in/eEgbj4Qq. #scicomm #sciencetwitter #sciencecommunication #twitteralternatives #scicommsuccess

Threads, a Twitter clone by Meta, has rolled out two new features: post-editing and voice notes. These features make Threads more competitive with Twitter and a more popular alternative for journalists. Users can now edit their posts for up to five minutes after publishing. This is a useful feature for fixing typos or adding new information. Users can also now leave voice notes on posts. This is a great way to add more personality to your posts and to share your thoughts in a more nuanced way. Overall, these new features make Threads a more well-rounded and user-friendly platform. #Twitter #X #socialmedia #news

Excited to share thoughts on Twitter's auto-suggestion feature for profiles! While it reduces cognitive load, there's room for improvement. Not all suggested profiles align with user interests, even within the same genre. 🔍 Solution: Refining the algorithm to enhance relevance and align suggested profiles more closely with user interests in a given genre. This optimization can significantly boost user satisfaction and the platform's utility. Let's spark a conversation! What are your thoughts on platform optimizations? #Twitter #Algorithm #UserExperience #Optimization #SocialMedia #TechTalks #linkedindiscussion

After an epic launch that broke records and a speedy climb to 100 million users, Threads hit a rough patch. Sensor Tower reports that its daily active users have taken a 50% dip in the last two weeks. 🚀 Threads is like an incredible, real-life adventure book about the ups and downs of releasing a basic version of a product (MVP) into the wild. 🎯 The pros? It's a golden chance to reel in users quickly when rivals, like Twitter, are struggling. As they say, one man's chaos is another man's opportunity... 🚫 The drawbacks? Users feel frustrated they can't find features they love (like a search function for trending hashtags or a customized feed), and there's a big confusion about the platform's focus - is it celebrity-oriented or community-centric? For fun or for real-time news? Meaning that functionality, use experience and UVP (unique value proposition) of the platform is not there yet. All of these issues have led to a wave of users heading for the exit.. But Threads was willing to take that gamble... 📚 If you're someone who loves seeing how digital products evolve from just an idea to a reality, I've got a fantastic read for you. In a highly compelling interview, Adam Mosseri, the Head of Instagram, lifts the lid on how Threads came to life and the hurdles they're currently tackling. He offers us a rare and brutally honest glimpse into their thought process, and unpacks some of the heated debates they had: ✔️ Should they create a standalone app or just add a tab in Instagram? ✔️ Will partnering with open systems such as ActivityPub or the Mastodon help regain the trust of creators who are wary of the 'Big Guys'? ✔️ How will they catch the attention of the vibrant creator community that Twitter has, and how will they start monetising the platform? Adam's motto is "Make it work, make it great, make it grow'. But will this strategy work out? 🎢 I'm excited to see how "Round 2" plays out. Buckle up, it's going to be quite the ride. #Threads #ProductDevelopment #DigitalProducts #Startups
