Today marks the first anniversary of the successful opening of the I-66 Express Outside the Beltway project in Virginia. A managed lanes project of $3.7 billion private investment, one of the largest public-private infrastructure initiatives in the United States, made possible only through a partnership with the Commonwealth of Virginia. Despite the challenges they had to face, the Commonwealth and our team demonstrated their outstanding capabilities and commitment to excellence. In the words of our chairman, this project is "an example of what we can accomplish when the public and private sectors work together." The 22.5-mile project has transformed the roadway, and it is now safer and more reliable for commuters on their daily commute. Since opening, more than 1.85 million vehicles have utilized the managed lanes, with an average of 370,000 vehicles driving the managed lanes per month. The project has resulted in a 36% reduction in peak-hour travel times compared to before construction. We are excited to announce that we have been selected to provide design services for the Campus Avenue At-Grade Railway Crossing Safety Improvements Project in the City of Ontario! The at-grade crossing on Campus Avenue at the Union Pacific Railroad (UPRR) Los Angeles Subdivision track occurs at a five-legged intersection with State Street and Ontario Boulevard. Through the years there have been a number of incidents caused from this configuration and vehicles maneuvering around the railroad crossing gate protection arms. Due to this, with engagement from the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) and UPRR, temporary modifications were made using striping, signing and delineators, particularly to prohibit the eastbound movement onto State Street, north of the UPRR track, to improve the safety of the crossing. Our goal is to increase crossing safety for vehicles, pedestrians, and bicyclists by hardening the temporary improvements through constructing new raised medians and sidewalk, eliminating the east leg of State Street and installing a traffic signal. #AtGradeCrossing #Rail #ActiveTransportation #WeAreMarkThomas

🚧Sometimes road closures can be a positive! Some major infrastructure upgrades are underway in Texas right now 🚧   🛣️ I-30/SH 360 Interchange Project in Arlington: Ongoing $233 million upgrade aimed at replacing the old cloverleaf turnpike with a direct connect interchange. Promises enhanced safety, connectivity, and mobility for Arlington's growing transport needs. Temporary road closures: I-30 eastbound main lanes will be narrowed to one lane from May 3-6 for pavement maintenance. 🔄 Loop 1604 Revamp in San Antonio: Part of a significant $1.4 billion project to overhaul Loop 1604 from Bandera Road to I-35. This project includes constructing stacked direct connectors with I-10, currently about 50% complete. Continued closures: Complete shutdown of all main lanes at the Loop 1604 and I-10 intersection from April 19, 9 PM to April 22, 5 AM. 📅 Long-term Impacts: These projects are key to accommodating the increased demand and improving the overall efficiency of Texas’s transportation infrastructure. Expected to significantly boost local economies by improving traffic flow and reducing travel times once completed. Eliminating roadway fatalities is a top priority for DOT. The Federal Highway Administration (FHWA)’s Proven Safety Countermeasures (PSCs) in Rural Communities resource guide highlights a subset of the PSCs with direct application in rural areas, including considerations, crash reduction effectiveness, case studies, and other resources. The guide also features a Desktop Reference table of PSCs that may be considered in rural communities and compares Safe System Roadway design hierarchy alignment, relative cost, unpaved road applicability, relative crash reduction, and typical service life. The National Highway Safety Administration (NHTSA) also has published a digital Countermeasures That Work Reference Guide for State Highway Safety Offices to help select effective, science-based traffic safety countermeasures to address highway safety problem areas in their States. This guide includes information on numerous behavioral strategies that are proven to help reduce traffic accidents and fatalities, with focused strategies for addressing young drivers and older drivers who both have higher rates of injury and involvement in crashes.
