Working as environmental stewards, STEM activists, and civic champions, our employees are dedicated to supporting the communities where we live and work. Check out some recent volunteering highlights from our offices around the country! Our Long Beach, California, office held its first beach cleanup of the year, spending the day at Mother’s Beach picking up trash and bonding as a team. Our Richmond, Virginia, office worked with RampsRVA to build a home entryway ramp for Juan, a local resident with mobility impairment. Our Raleigh, North Carolina, office participated in Special Olympics North Carolina’s (SONC) 25th anniversary Plane Pull event, one of SONC’s signature fundraising events, involving up to 400 participants who raise over $100,000 annually for SONC. As I pause to consider the incredible journey of Merit Nonprofit Professional Development, one thing truly stands out: the incredible impact we've been able to support within the nonprofit community. Executive - Programme @ Singapore Anglican Community Services | Volunteer Management and Fundraising
Just finished attending an amazing event where I was able to learn from various speakers about non-profit leadership, volunteer management, governance and risk management, and fund raising for high performing charities. Excited to implement these new insights into my career! #nonprofit #leadership #volunteer #fundraising #governance #riskmanagement
Meet Elke, the first assistance dog in my classroom! 🐾 I take immense pride in the culture of social inclusivity at SUSS classrooms. Cassandra Chiu, accompanied by her invaluable seeing-eye companion, Elke, was among the valued participants in our COC-SUSS Certificate in High Performing Charities. The privilege of learning from Cassandra about her advocacy for the dignity of persons with disabilities through K9Assistance (Limited), along with the insights from Juliano, has been truly enlightening. It's been a transformative journey facilitating the Certificate course for me. Every one of our participant is an inspiration and importantly, they keep me humble. They are dedicated to making a difference in our communities across a broad range of causes from persons with dementia, disabilities, elderly & vulnerable, terminal illnesses, conservation, heritage and fostering the arts, among other meaningful causes. What an incredibly delightful and enriching experience! #InclusivityMatters #DiversityInEducation #SocialImpact #SUSSCommunity

Today, we spotlight a few nonprofits who focus on addressing child abuse in the United States 🇺🇸 while being acutely aware of how imperative the work they do is. Studies show that 1 in 7 children in the US has experienced child abuse and sadly the number have continued to grow. While inspiring organizations like; • Child Abuse Prevention Center (CAPC) • The Chadwick Center for Children and Families, CA • Dallas Children's Advocacy Center, TX • The CALL (Children of Arkansas Loved for a Lifetime) • Arkansas Sheriffs' Youth Ranches • CornerHouse • Wyoming Children's Trust Fund • Tennessee Children's Advocacy Centers • Our Kids, TN • KidSafe Collaborative, Tennessee • Memphis Child Advocacy Center • Palmer Home for Children • Blue Sky Bridge, Colorado play a crucial role in preventing and addressing child abuse, offering services ranging from advocacy and therapy to medical care and legal support, There's still much to do for the kids. In our weekly nonprofit research, this week we learned of the increasing funding gap the child abuse sector in the nonprofit ecosystem is currently facing. There are a lot of nonprofits who lack the funding to help more kids. RUOVA partners with these orgs to help them secure the funding to drive positive change. Heal the world begins with the kids. #nonprofit #fundraising #winninggrants

As we continue to spread the word about the Virginia Community Engagement Index (VCEI), we want to thank the diverse group of individuals and organizations who made this work possible, including AmeriCorps and Points of Light! During the process of building the VCEI, we recruited a Core Team of partners representing 38 diverse public, private, and nonprofit organizations across Virginia to help us identify what the VCEI needed to be. The central questions we set out to uncover were, “Who are Virginia’s community volunteers and civically engaged residents? What do they care about? Where and how are they engaging? And why?” Together, we developed a study that could help us better understand the degree to which service, volunteerism, and civic engagement is a strength in our communities, and how to continue to build and leverage that strength. Every interaction can teach you valuable lessons you can carry forward into other areas of your life. Daniel Cakora here again to share some reflections. Vendavo offers 16 hours of annual paid volunteer time to each employee so we can all give back to causes that matter to us. But this is something my family does outside of that. This year I volunteered for the Jackson Chance Foundation, and this one really hit home for me. Jackson Chance Foundation assists families with NICU-bound children by covering parking fees. My son spent a significant amount of time in the NICU, so I know what that’s like. Not having to worry about expensive parking fees during such a trying time was a weight off our shoulders for my wife and me. It gave us the freedom to visit our son, step away to run errands, and come back to spend more time with him – all without additional financial stress layered atop everything else. This cause means so much to us that we set aside money on birthdays and the anniversary of our son’s “come home day” to make contributions. There are little lessons like that everywhere. Openings for solutions that can help make others’ days a little less stressful or a little easier. Opportunities that matter a lot to the people on the other end of the experience. As Benjamin Franklin said, “When you’re good to others, you’re best to yourself.” https://lnkd.in/g547y64Z #vendavo #employeetakeover #jacksonchance #jcf

This week, our Story of Service is from Alli Sharp, CEO & Board President of We Heart All. We Heart All is a Washington state-based nonprofit that partners with communities, groups, and organizations to create healthy, stable, and safe environments for vulnerable children and families around the world. - What is your "story of service"? How has it made a difference in your life? "I founded an organization called We Heart All, to make a difference in the lives of vulnerable children in underserved communities around the world. Whether it was opening a safehouse and welcoming children into their new home, providing funds to help with education and nutrition, or implementing programs to prevent exploitation, every action was a stepping stone towards a better future for these children. I’ve witnessed children who were once silenced by fear and despair find their voices and unleash their potential, which filled my heart with indescribable joy. This experience became an integral part of my identity. The challenges I encountered along the way serve as constant reminders of the urgency and importance of my work. The story of my service is ongoing, as I continue to fight for the rights and well-being of vulnerable children. I am grateful for the privilege of serving, for it has given my life a purpose beyond measure." - Why do you choose to give back to others? Why is service a part of your life? "I have felt unwanted, small, and without a voice. I have seen the terrible things that happen to children. Once you see that and experience that, there is no going back. It's not something I can ignore. I serve because helping others is the true purpose of life." Do you have a story about service that we can share through our social media channels? Contact us through the link below or in bio to submit your story. https://zurl.co/OmDb #storiesofservice #service4good #multiplyinggood #communityservice #givingback #MGstoriesofservice
