Longbow Research published a short note today covering the February release on contract awards from the American Road and Transportation Builders Association (ARTBA) which showed continuing growth in public construction awards for highways and bridges. With strong funding from various governmental agencies, this sector appears poised to continue at above historical levels of growth through 2024/25. #constructionmaterials #publicnonresidentialconstruction

Imagine lowering 180 pre-cast beams, each the size of a school bus 🚌, 31 meters underground. That is just one of the engineering features our collegues at CPB Contractors (CIMIC Group Limited) achieved to complete the construction of Cross River Rail’s Albert Street Station. Let’s take a look at this milestone: 🚧 ✔️Mezzanine level: Built by lowering 180 pre-cast beams, each 19 meters long and 70 tonnes, down a 31-meter-long access shaft. ✔️Platform level: Constructed from more than 365 precast culverts, each weighing 6.5 tonnes, to create a 220-meter platform 31 meters below ground level. CPB Contractors is delivering the Cross River Rail Tunnel, Stations and Development package in a consortium alongside fellow Pacific Partnerships and UGL (CIMIC). Civil engineering contractors now have the chance to explore new opportunities in the infrastructure sector, thanks to two major markets: road and rail maintenance. Balfour Beatty, one of the UK's largest civils contractors, recently reported on the favourable outlook for both sectors in their first-half results. This aligns with the Glenigan Construction Industry Forecast 2023-2025, which predicted an 11% increase in civil engineering starts next year and a recent surge in detailed planning approvals across the broader infrastructure sector. Highways Maintenance 👉 With a £2.7 billion road patching scheme in motion, local council budgets are up, and contracts are up for grabs. For instance, the Milton Keynes Highways Term Service Contract worth £350 million starts this autumn. Rail Maintenance 👉 A £44 billion government investment plan for 2024-2029 is boosting the rail sector.
