I made the first round of interviews for ADCOLOR FUTURES and bombed it 💣 Inspired by Mikey Cook One of my goals this year is to attend a conference. Their program offers sponsorship to attend the ADCOLOR Conference and Awards, among other learning and development opportunities. I was among the candidates that moved on to the first round of interviews back in May. It wasn't my best interview, and here’s why: Relying on past performance- Not dedicating enough time to practice since I performed well in past interviews. Underselling my impact- I could not communicate my work at a high level. I received the news I was not selected last week. I was disappointed, but I learned important lessons. I need to ask more questions about the purpose of tasks I receive to understand the larger team's impact. If you’re a “good interviewer,” you’re never too good to practice. They saw something in me for an opportunity to interview, and that’s still something to be proud of. They haven’t seen the last of me lol. If one more of you tags your listings as "entry level" and then REQUIRES "n years of experience" where n is greater than the amount of sane brain cells I have after sifting through these exploitation exhibitions y'all call "job postings"... I'm suing capitalism. I don't care who reads this rant. If you're an employer (or a recruiter, we all know most boomer employers don't even keep up with their fields enough anymore to know what makes a good applicant) reading this and you have an issue: 1. I don't want to work for you. Nobody (actually) does. 2. You unchecked my overqualified resume as soon as you saw I was Black.

Tweaking your resume for every job based on the job description, to make it represent your suitability to that positron, feels backwards to me. I prefer one resume geared to what kind of job I want, and then choose jobs to apply to based on their suitability to me, based on the job description
