I had the pleasure of attending the Career Nuggets Autumn Fireside Chat ‘Thriving in Your Career - Strategies for Sustained Success’ hosted by Bank of America. It was such an enlightening, informative and inspiring evening and I'm sure many of us left with great insight. Morenike Ajayi MBE DStg, MBA, FCPFA, the founder of Career Nuggets is known for curating spaces that foster edifying conversations and this was no different. My key take aways from her session was: (A) Attitude: Learn to stay positive and be proactive. (C) Competence: Always be one that thrives for continuous learning; by mastering your craft (E) Engagement: Build positive relationships; stay involved and don't be invisible. We had Tania Cox a Director at Bank of America share on building a personal brand, networking strategies and skill development. The most profound thing I took from her chat was "You can't complain about the culture of the firm, because you are the culture of the firm. If you identify a problem what will you do about it?" Yvonne Ike , one of the MD’s at Bank of America gave us a charge on Resilience & Adaptability and common career challenges. What stuck with me from her conversation was when she said _"It's hard to tell the difference between resilience and madness. Resilience helps you when you understand your goal. Align your life ambitions and When the going gets tough I get tougher_” Lastly, we had the Dean of Career Nuggets, Kemi Bolarin share on work life balance. "It's only when you're healthy you're able to put strategies in place for sustained success - this entails your mental, physical and nutritional health" this really honed everything in for me. I can’t wait to put these nuggets in to practice and I'm really grateful for the Career Nuggets platform and the opportunities it has made available for me.

When you are on the journey to your destination, package good character as part of your luggage. Some years ago in a new generation bank which has now become one of the leading banks in the country, management trainees were newly employed and they were deployed to different departments as the management deemed fit. Kola and Kunle were deployed to the operations, specifically to be tellers. However, Kunle felt he would do better in other departments, especially in marketing. The deployment did not sit well with Kunle and his negative attitude to work constantly betrayed him. He was never supportive of his colleagues both within and outside the department, he just felt he was too brilliant to be a teller. A few years later, there was a vacant position in the marketing unit and Kunle gladly applied. He was quite optimistic he would be transferred to the department as it was just to be an internal recruitment. He was however shocked when the marketing team rejected him and referred to his unwillingness to assist and to his unruliness. The branch management had no choice but to specifically ask the marketing team who they wanted. To Kunle's amazement, they all mentioned Kola's name and they never forgot to mention his politeness, accommodating and hardworking nature. That was how Kola got the position without applying for it. Moral of the story: 1️⃣ In the journey of life as you network, people may never know your family members but they will know your character. 2️⃣ Character is an essential ingredient to greatness. 3️⃣ In the journey to getting to your desired position, never frustrate your chances with a bad attitude. 4️⃣ People are watching and one day, they will testify. 5️⃣ Soft skills are in high demand by employers, teach them to your children. Soft skills include communication, teamwork, problem-solving, time management, critical thinking, decision-making, stress management, adaptability, conflict management, leadership, creativity, resourcefulness, persuasion and openness to criticism. It is another Monday! A time to set the right tone for the week. What steps are you taking to package good character as part of your journey towards success? Share your thoughts and experiences in the comments. Happy Monday! #Rhodakeji #parentingcoach #childdevelopment #childcare #lwc #Ghostwriting #Fictionwriting #iLinkProsBC #LinkPros #evolvewithessie
