On Tuesday, the sport’s governing body issued a statement to “provide clarity” on why Raygun tops the rankings. The World DanceSport Federation said the ranking methodology is based on each athlete’s top four performances within the past 12 months — but excludes Olympic events including the Paris Games and Olympic qualifier series events in Shanghai and Budapest. Additionally, no ranking events were held between December 2023 and the Olympics — to allow athletes to focus on qualification. The federation clarified that the unusual circumstances of this year’s competition schedule resulted in many athletes being ranked based on a single event. In Raygun’s case, her first-place finish at the Oceania continental championships in October 2023 earned her 1,000 points. Many within the breaking community have criticized the rankings for not giving a clear picture of breaking as a sport and as a culture. “Speaking of the WDSF, they actually don’t have any real merit with the breakers or the breaking community,” said Zack Slusser, vice president of Breaking for Gold USA. “And they also haven’t been able to organize events by their measure that would contribute to creating an accurate world ranking.” According to Slusser, breakers only performed in events organized by the WDSF — the Lausanne-based governing body for competitive dance sports — to get enough points to qualify for the Paris Olympics. Breakers “had no incentive, no desire to even continue participating with the WDSF after that,” Slusser said. “Because they’re not cultural events. There’s always money for stuff like this but never for covering basic needs for residents. The big game is expected to bring 125,000 visitors and at least $500 million in economic impact to the state, so hopefully some of that money is actually used on what the city needs, like affordable & transitional housing, a reliable electrical grid, accessibility upgrades in public spaces and local transit, working pumps, etc. https://lnkd.in/ggJQeYiC There’s this phenomenon down here of money—millions—being earmarked for infrastructure projects that mysteriously is never spent. https://lnkd.in/gavsGDHZ The silver lining of all this recent press is that more projects are being fast tracked, timed with the Super Bowl. But it shouldn’t be this way. New Orleans is great to visit but living down here is a whole other thing.

🎹 Producers there is always an opportunity for your music to be used in sync even if that music is old. I’m gonna show you how in a second but first check this out.. I had some music placed on some of the Pro Volleyball Federation games. This is a brand new deal with CBS Sports that obviously needed music. (Think pre-game, post game, breaks, etc.) 🛑 But THIS is the crazy part…the music that was placed on these games was music I produced back in 2016. I didn’t even have to make new music, to get new placements on a new CBS Sports series. 🤯If you want to learn how to revive your old music and get it placed in tv and film, comment the word “SYNC”.
