Help us to serve you better. And have a change to win a cool 3D printer 😎 At Ter Hoek, we prioritize people. We value connecting with both our employees and with you. That's why we want to understand you better so that we can tailor our content effectively and serve you more attractively. Will you assist us with this? Here’s how you can help: We're interested in learning about the content that appeals to you. What are you searching for? What type of content captures your interest? Please let us know and fill in the survey. This survey takes about 2 minutes to complete, and helps us understand the communication preferences of a very rare species, the “homo-precision-sapiens” 🤓 Of course you have the option to participate anonymously. How to frame news on topics likely of interest to a broad segment of readers is, I think, a big question. I also think there is no correct answer to it, in other words the issue is typical of those requiring a "shades of gray" response. While I do not claim to know the answer to the question, I do know an application of an ethical review should accompany any application of an answer within the context of writing and then publishing a news story. "Researchers 3D print key components for a point-of-care mass spectrometer" (https://lnkd.in/err85thc) I found this story to be an example of the risk of overstating and of overamplifying the "importance" and/or "significance" of what amounts to a work in progress. Mass spectrometry is, today, as this story notes, a very expensive set of procedures. Identifying a method of reducing costs for what the story identifies as a "key" component of it is just one step along a long path, is it not? #technicalnewswriting #technicalnewsreporting #mit #massspectrometry

#ECS2024 is over for a few weeks now. It was an incredible occasion to discover projects involving protection of #cetaceans but also to show some creations developed with Faculté de médecine vétérinaire - ULiege and ACCOBAMS. Many specific posts will follow describing 3D printed inventions and proof of concept. Deeply invested in training, my primary goal is to give scientists tools to improve their skills without the need for live animals. With Thierry Jauniaux we are proposing cheap solutions for training in #photoidentification, #necropsy, #morphometrics and of course #scientificphotography in a #stranding context. A particularly usefull and bold project is being built right now : the #dolfake initiative. We want to create a 1:1 open source 3D printed #dolphin that will be anatomically rigorous and will allow scientists to create a whole teaching infrastructure for their stranding network. Faculté de médecine vétérinaire - ULiege is funding the consumables and we are now looking for other partners to join the adventure allowing the R&D to be done. A video demonstrating it's use with an early proof of concept will be available soon. Thanks to Maÿlis Salivas Marwan Abderrahim Simone Panigada for their support !
