Deputy Prime Minister Inaugurates Imerys Al Zayani’s 4.7MW Solar Plant In Bahrain Deputy Prime Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa inaugurated a 4.7-megawatt solar power station operated by Imerys Al Zayani, celebrating the company’s 10th anniversary. The facility, equipped with 8,600 photovoltaic solar panels, is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 5,000 tonnes annually, constituting 15% of the company’s emissions. The Deputy Premier emphasized the private sector’s role in environmental security, aligning with Bahrain’s goals of reducing carbon emissions by 30% by 2035 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2060. Today we celebrate World Wind Day, recognizing the transformative impact of wind energy. From ancient windmills to modern turbines, wind energy contributes over 591 GW to the global energy mix. This sector drives job creation, economic growth, and substantial carbon emission reductions, making it a sustainable alternative to fossil fuels. The UAE's 103.5-MW Wind Programme exemplifies this progress, introducing large-scale, cost-effective wind power to the grid. This project spans four locations, including Sir Bani Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, and is expected to power over 23,000 homes annually, displacing 120,000 metric tonnes of CO2—equivalent to removing 26,000 petrol-powered cars from the roads. Technological advancements have made wind power viable in low-wind regions, enhancing energy security and setting a precedent for future developments. Happy to share the advancements Cyprus is making in the field of energy, particularly in renewables and infrastructure projects, as we stride towards our ambitious 2040 targets. With a preliminary goal of achieving 80% renewable energy sources (RES) by 2040, Cyprus is setting a strong example for sustainable energy development. Our efforts were recently showcased as part of our presidency of the MED9 countries. We had the opportunity to inform other Member States about the significant strides we've made. Announced that on September 23, 2024, Cyprus will host a Ministerial meeting to further discuss and solidify our commitments and plans of how Medeterrenian Region can become a green hub for exporting clean energy to the rest of EU countries. British companies place investment in clean energy, hydrogen and sustainable cities in Egypt at the top of their priorities ◾ British companies are considering investing in Egypt's new and renewable clean energy sectors, as well as transport, sustainable infrastructure, and also sustainable cities. ◾ The British ambassador in Cairo said that a new British company will soon be announced to invest in the green hydrogen sector in Egypt. ◾ Bailey added that British companies are currently interested in investing in new and renewable clean energy, transport, sustainable infrastructure and also sustainable cities. ◾ British company Globeleck announced the completion of a 48.3% stake in the 25 MW Winergy Solar Photovoltaic Plant in Egypt from Enerai Global Solar Operates and Desert Technologies.
