Having a strong password is no longer sufficient to keep your online accounts secure. Hackers are becoming increasingly sophisticated, emphasizing the need for additional layers of security. Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) is a security process that requires two forms of identification from the user before granting access to an account. Examples are text message, fingerprint or authentication apps. On the other hand we have Multi-factor authentication (MFA) which is a multi-step login process that requires a user to enter more information than just a password. For example, along with the password, users might be asked to enter a code sent to their email, answer a secret question, or/and scan a fingerprint. Email Security: Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) Mismanagement -Did you know using MFA blocks 99.9% of account hacks? MFA creates an additional layer of security for your emails. However, depending on a single authentication device makes your accounts vulnerable to attacks. For instance, malicious actors can infiltrate your accounts if they gain access to your primary device. 💡Solution: Consider setting up MFA on a secondary device as well. You may use a spare handset or tablet to minimize the damage inflicted through a compromised device. Great to support all customers enable #passwordless with FIDO2 Authenticators. Andrew Shikiar, executive director and CMO of the FIDO Alliance. “By eliminating the requirement for a knowledge-based credential in favor of unphishable FIDO2 authenticators, LastPass has taken an important step to provide simpler and more secure access to LastPass vaults – accelerating their customers’ journey towards a password-independent future.” Phishing resistant controls like FIDO2 Authenticators are an important step to reducing data breach risk via compromised credentials Some interesting points re compromised credentials: IBM notes it cost of average 4.5m USD to address a breach cause by a compromised credential. IBM noted that dwell time for compromised credentials is ~300 days. OAIC via its NDB report - 65% of all cyber incidents in Australia related to compromised credentials over the prior 5 years. A few good reasons to reduce risk with LastPass and FIDO2 authenticators. #cybersecurity #fido2 #99problemsandpasswordsare1 https://lnkd.in/gZHe79aR
