Drought Update: For the first time in over three years, our region has started June without drought conditions, according to the National Integrated Drought Information System. This marks a significant moment for our local farmers, ranchers, and water-dependent businesses. However, the fight against drought is far from over. Despite recent improvements in reservoir levels and near-normal precipitation in the past year, the spring brought less rainfall than expected, and groundwater levels remain critically low. This signals that drought conditions could potentially reemerge. At the Deschutes River Conservancy, we continue to prioritize the restoration of streamflow and improvement of water quality throughout the Deschutes Basin. These varying climatic conditions underscore the importance of innovative, sustainable water management strategies to address both current and future challenges. We encourage our partners, stakeholders, and the community to stay engaged and proactive. Together, we can develop and implement resilient solutions that ensure long-term water sustainability for our region. Amid growing drought concerns, the City of Calgary is telling residents to prepare for possible water restrictions as early as May. The city also said that Calgary is experiencing drought conditions, with a higher-than-average risk the conditions will persist in the coming months. The city’s natural environment and adaptation manager highlighted that river levels are low and reservoir levels are average. During the preparedness update, the city said it is already washing its cars less, installing more efficient irrigation systems and using moisture monitors to see if trees need to be watered to conserve as much as possible. #Calgary #waterrestrictions #drought #droughtconditions This content is jointly prepared by ZWEEC Analytics Pte Ltd and ripple2wave. I’m happy to read 90% of SAWS customers abide by the drought rules. But what about the 10% that don’t? Perhaps also educating customers on #EcoConscious practices can reach those individuals and promote #WaterConservation efforts across the city. For example, customers can: ⛔️ Reduce lawn size by replacing sections with groundcover which requires less water (and no mowing—saves time and reduces emissions, a bonus!) 🌻 Incorporate native plants, trees, and shrubs to support wildlife, insects, and pollinators 💧 Add compost and mulch to keep water by the plants’ roots and prevent evaporation What else would you suggest? #EveryDropCounts #WaterManagement
As Bexar County suffers through a period of exceptional drought, SAWS is weighing ways to crack down on water wasters.

This is a very scary scenario for BC. This will cause major issues for Salmon runs and farming. Water conservation will cause major issues for a lot of industries that provide people with day to day necessities. Not to mention the wildfires are going to be full speed as we enter a drought scenario. Would love to hear your opinions on how we should look to combat this and what needs to change? How does our future look if this becomes the norm? #snowpack #drought #wildfires #salmonrun #waterconservation

Beyond Drought: Water in Texas Since Texas is boasting 850 new residents per day, we need to think about future water today. Every sector in our state depends on water. Our quality of life is driven by water, too. Texas produce growers understand this at the granular level. For a while, they had no water. That’s not just bad for them, it’s bad for every kitchen table in the state. What’s the issue and what do we do? Pray for rain, conserve water, plan for future needs, implement the plan, develop new sources of water, and insist that water is fairly and consistently allocated and managed. #txwater #watermanagement #conservation #drought Anser Advisory Robert Sheets https://lnkd.in/ggAeCJZ9

The great State of Iowa is facing #watersecurity challenges, entering the 4th year of drought while population is increasing, industrial demand is increasing and agriculturalists consider increasing use of irrigation. Meanwhile, State Geologist Keith Schilling says that "Iowa needs to better assess how much water it has available in its aquifers". Does this sound familiar, fellow Oregonians? Iowans are not standing still, however, but are adopting multiple #waterinsecurity solutions, including flooding local riverside riparian areas and restoring wetlands to improve aquifer recharge as well as considering using recycled wastewater to supplement a source water reservoir. Let's support efforts to improve #waterinsecurity for everyone and apply lessons learned in our own back yards. https://lnkd.in/gq2eUtvP
