Wise words as always from my good friend and President at 72andSunny in Sydney, Ross Berthinussen, about the merits of having super experienced strategic and creative folk in your agency. Something we also see a lot of value in at the Orange Panther Collective.
Some tangible examples of this:
* Smaller teams are more closely involved in the development of the work. This makes communication, collaboration and focus within the team, and client partners, far easier to foster.
* The flatter agency structure in many ways ‘runs itself’, as experienced staff are capable of directing their own output and managing their own time – quality control is baked into the model.
* A leaner and flatter agency structure fosters a more democratic agency. Everyone is sufficiently experienced and respected to have a voice in the agency’s work, and its future. This encourages bravery and innovation.
* It makes projects easier to manage: fewer stakeholders and process stage gates ensure that work can be swiftly ideated and produced.
* It removes ‘fat’ from timelines and budgets, ensuring that projects are run more efficiently for clients.
* Having senior brains on the business with a broader understanding of business and marketing (and a more finely tuned ‘gut feel’) also leads to faster, more effective work.
This by no means says we don’t enjoy working with and helping shape young teams too, there is a time and place for everyone.
As I said, wise words Rossi 🙌

I’ve been starting to feel the impact of years and years of relationship building, showing up for one another and “healing our polarities” as Tanisha Douglas says.
I have learned so much over the past 8 years of building SheEO™ / Coralus including patience to wait for the timing to be right. Lorraine thank you for bringing us all together to dream in the future we all know is possible. 🥰🥰🙏🙏

Do you have a no D!£%head policy?
Turns out it’s good for business.
Yesterday I had the privilege of listening to the Chair of the Welsh Rugby Union Richard Collier-Keywood talk eloquently about the important Welsh cultural asset he is now responsible for and the need for it to serve all stakeholders i.e. benefit society beyond the bottom line.
In business it’s known as CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) which emerged as a concept in the 1960s.
Back then it was seen as an altruistic means of doing more with a business than just making money, but it was assumed it would involve sacrificing profit to achieve it.
The growing evidence shows this is not the case.
Being environmentally responsible, inclusive and serving of all stakeholders (customers, employees, investors, the environment and wider society) builds a strong brand, customer engagement, profit and also investment opportunities.
The All Blacks have an NDH (No D!£%head) policy.
They clean their own dressing rooms, carry their own bags and essentially show humility, accountability and a recognition of all the stakeholders in their organisation.
For me, corporate social responsibility boils down to common sense, respect and humility.
It’s good to see those leading our national game going forward aspire to the same ethos.
And at a time of such high attrition in business in general, would it not be best to have a smart business model that ensures that everyone in the eco system is incentivised to see the venture succeed?
