🌐 New BOUGUER GRAVITY GRID of South Australia released by the #GSSA Like previous grids, this 2024 version was created using the Supervised Variable Density Gridding process. It was created from over one million individual observations of the acceleration due to gravity throughout the state, and has been gridded to a 100m resolution. Bouguer Gravity provides an indication of the density of the subsurface, making it a valuable tool for the exploration industry, as well as for a variety of industries where there is need to image what is underground. Over the many years that I have studied environmental processes, I have seen time and again the importance of first seeking to understand the underlying physics at work for a given variable within the Seasonal Cycle. Case in point, the atmospheric mixing ratio of methane at Mauna Loa. What caught my eye when plotting the methane mixing ratio from 1986 to present, was the appearance of two peaks per year. Plotting the mixing ratio by month of year versus its first derivative over 37 years of monitoring, reveals the classic solar forcing experienced along tropical - subtropical latitudes. Recall that the tropics experience two peak solar intensities per year. The spring or Vernal Equinox and the fall or Autumnal Equinox. In closing, always question the validity of experts claiming to know how much methane is released by termites versus by cows or humans and never forget that methane is first a foremost driven by the life giving energy of our Sun.
