It means doing everything you can to reduce the chances of an infectious disease being carried onto your farm/property by people, animals, equipment or vehicles. Biosecurity is the frontline defense against disease outbreaks in livestock farming. From strict entry protocols to hygiene practices, every measure counts in the prevention of disease outbreak #allwrightinvestmentltd #biosecurity #animalhealth #veterinary #animalmedications #poultry #poultryfarm #poultrybiosecuritytips

Small animals, Big Impact! Across sub-Saharan Africa and the Indian subcontinent, small farmers derive a significant cash income from livestock—not the large dairy animals (which they cannot afford), but the less talked-about small ruminants, mainly goats. There is yet no large-scale commercial goat rearing on large organised farms. This also limits the availability of affordable veterinary support (like vaccines) for these farmers. My years as a Board Trustee with GALVmed , a global organisation connecting the North with the South, have immensely sensitised me to the value of bringing accessible animal health solutions to small-scale producers in the villages. GALVmed supports this mission by building a bridge between scientific advancements in the field and the lives of small farming households in Africa and South Asia. It can - and does- bring smiles! #Veterinary #AnimalHealth #Africa #GALVmed

Livestock247, conducting cow identification and treatment activities in Wuro Mogoggo, Sardauna Local Government Area. Cows are identified using standard and internationally recognised microchip implants. Microchips are injected under the skin of cattle to make it easier for farmers and animal health professionals to identify them and obtain accurate medical information, histories, and records. The serial number on the #microchip identifies the cow, which is then entered into our #database for #monitoring and #traceability. This aids in the monitoring of #cow activities and events that occur throughout its life cycle, such as #migration and #movement. This can be useful in the monitoring and prevention of the spread of #animal diseases; and in maintaining the #security of the cattle. Farmers benefit from Livestock 247 through animal identification by microchipping in the following ways: • Animal Record Keeping • Remote and real-time availability of animal records. • Provision of comprehensive animal #healthcare. • Monitoring animal behavior and movement. • Establishment ownership. • Possibility of #insurance claims. • #Education, #Advocacy, and #sensitisation on relevant #animalhusbandry and care topics. All of these and more are part of our efforts to prevent the spread of zoonosis within Africa while mainstreaming the livestock sector. 📢 Discussion Forum 2024 session announcement 📢 The global Insects as Food and Feed (IAFF) industry currently farms over a trillion individual insects a year and is growing rapidly. However, there is a lack of policy and regulation over the use of insects in food farming as well as a gap in knowledge and understanding of insect sentience. The last session of the day, entitled "The minds of insects and why they matter" aims to explore the current state of play in insect sentience and what is at stake in insect farming across the world. It will help veterinary and animal welfare professionals understand their role in protecting the welfare of insects used in food production and how the veterinary and animal welfare professions can positively impact the quality of production, regulatory compliance, public perception and the overall success of insect farming as a viable source of food. 💬AWF Discussion Forum 2024 📅Monday 13th May 2024 📍Cavendish Conference Centre, 22 Duchess Mews, London W1G 9DT 🌐 https://lnkd.in/e9S7KwZ8
