At-risk Intervention and Mentoring (AIM) Medical Director Dr. Benjamin Li, participated in last week’s Doctors for America White Coat event in collaboration with the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention. The event was held in Washington, D.C, bringing together 80 medical professionals, including doctors, nurses and emergency responders, to address the urgent public health crisis of gun violence. Discussions centered on the traumatic impact witnessed by health care professionals, and the necessity of implementing evidence-based practices to mitigate the crisis. Dr. Li emphasized the vital role of health care providers in advocating for comprehensive solutions and the continued need for resources to support initiatives like hospital-based violence intervention programs, such as the AIM program at Denver Health. Dr. Li recently secured a grant from the State of Colorado's Crime Victim Services, Victims of Crime Act (VOCA) Grant Program for AIM in 2025. The grant will provide essential salary support for AIM's outreach workers, facilitating services such as trauma-informed and culturally responsive bedside interventions and case management for victims of gun violence, stabbings and assaults. “This is a public health crisis requiring solutions from across the health care sector, in partnership with the community,” said Dr. Li. 🧡 #GunViolenceAwarenessMonth #WearOrange #GunViolence #DisarmHate #EndGunViolence #CultureofCARE #FirearmSafety #HAVhope #WeApplaud #DHExperts

Dr. Li is easily one of the sharpest medical professionals I've worked with at Denver Health. And I want to highlight the "professional" part. I had an issue and he was the on-call physician and, together, we stumbled through some insanity that my medical team managed to create for me. Congrats, Dr. Li!!
