Windsocks: typically are used at airports to indicate the direction and strength of the wind to pilots and at chemical plants where there is risk of gaseous leakage. They are sometimes located alongside highways at windy locations. At many airports, windsocks are lit at night, either by floodlights on top surrounding it or with one mounted on the pole shining inside it. Wind direction is the direction in which the windsock is pointing.

We're probably all familiar with the jet stream - a fast, narrow current of air aloft flowing from west to east around the globe that directs storm systems. But have you heard of jet *streaks*? They're a portion of the overall jet stream with even faster winds (200 mph in some cases)! They can lead to very fast flights if they're supplying a tail wind! And they can enhance precipitation if you're in the correct quadrant of the jet streaks! Here's my explanation:

I hate to see it! As a loyal Delta flyer, it's disheartening to witness the struggles they faced during the recent global technology outage. Delta appears to be in for a challenging journey to regain the trust of its customers and the aviation community. However, this setback presents a silver lining - an incredible opportunity for Delta to respond with transparency and candid communication. By sharing insights into how they plan to enhance their internal operations post-incident, Delta can pave the way for a more robust recovery. Trust, as they say, is built in teaspoons and lost in buckets. I'm optimistic that Delta can navigate this challenging period and emerge stronger than before with a commitment to openness, authentic communication, and follow-through. #DeltaAirlines #TrustBuilding #AviationCommunity https://lnkd.in/ep4jYxi4

At many airports, windsocks are lit at night, either by floodlights on top surrounding it or with one mounted on the pole shining inside it. Wind speed is indicated by the windsock's angle relative to the mounting pole; in low winds, the windsock droops; in high winds it flies horizontally.
