Some children in foster care need extra support and an especially caring and nurturing environment. That's why the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services implemented a five-year pilot of a Therapeutic Foster Care (TFC), which is provided by #FosterCare parents with specialized training in evidence-based models. They asked Chapin Hall to evaluate the pilot, and we found children generally benefitted from this program. We also found TFC could be a viable, cost-beneficial, community-based alternative to residential care.  November is #NationalAdoptionMonth.  According to childwelfare.gov, over 100,000 #children were waiting to be adopted who were at #risk of aging out of foster care without a permanent family connection. 22% of them were between the ages of 13 & 17.   Teens in foster care wait longer & are at higher risk of not securing lifelong connections. Positive Childhood Experiences (PCEs) can help lessen the effects of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) which affect many children and youth in foster care.
