This #GivingTuesday, let's build bridges and foster understanding together! https://lnkd.in/dS5ZqgQ3 Our communities, whether local or global, are grappling with deep-rooted divisions, societal inequalities, and the repercussions of misunderstandings. In such a climate, fostering equitable, open, and empathetic dialogue is no longer merely an option; it has become an imperative. Media Fellowship House stands committed to promoting dialogue as a powerful tool for change. Our dedication to creating a more equitable community is stronger than ever. Through initiatives like our Conversation Series, we've witnessed the transformative impact of dialogue. It has the power to: Foster Understanding: Dialogue nurtures understanding by providing a platform for individuals to openly share their experiences, perspectives, and concerns. It creates a space where diverse voices are heard and valued. Bridge Divides: In a world often marked by political, social, and cultural divisions, dialogue acts as a bridge, connecting individuals who might otherwise remain isolated from one another. Promote Empathy: Engaging in open dialogue encourages empathy and compassion, enabling participants to see the world through the eyes of others and, in turn, work together to discover common ground. As you consider your year-end giving, please know your gift – of any size – will help us to do even more in the coming year to foster understanding and compassion through meaningful dialogue, provide scholarship opportunities for high school youth, and empower households through our housing counseling services. Together, let's create positive change and build a more equitable and empathetic community. #GivingTuesday #CommunityBuilding #EmpathyInAction

When I was first asked to participate in this panel discussion I was nervous as this sort of thing is definitely not in my comfort zone. However I felt honoured to have been asked and knew it was a valuable opportunity for me personally and for Be Free Young Carers. As a mother, and a youth worker (working with 8-17 year olds) I know how important it is for young people to participate in this increasingly digital world in which we find ourselves. Almost every time I register a new young carer when I ask what they do to relax I hear the same answer 'I go on my phone/tablet' with TikTok and YouTube being the most commonly used platforms. As a charity we know that digital poverty is very real amongst our families, most of the young carers have phones but many of them do not have access to a laptop or computer. This is why we try to ensure that every young carer going into year 7 has a laptop, we are very much aware how many of their homework tasks need to be completed online. We want to make sure that our Young Carers (who are often already disadvantaged when it comes to schoolwork) do not fall further behind due to a lack of equipment. However, we also realise the importance of real life face to face interactions and this is why we have our respite trips and monthly hangouts for our 13 group. During these activities the young carers form friendships that will continue once they leave our group at the age of 18, this will really help them in the longer term. #youngcarers #digitalpoverty #oxfordyoungcarers #disadvantaged

It was great to be at the Local Government Association in London today with National Youth Agency discussing our contributions to the Peer Review Pilots for Youth Work. It was good be having strategic dialogue about Youth Work and the importance of it. As I said today, you are not a youth worker if you call yourself one. It is a profession, with a professional qualification. We thought it was important for Rochdale Borough Council to be there today as youth work has been championed and prioritised in the Borough. Rochdale Youth Service have benefited from strong political and strategic support. We were pleased to be invited to share our experiences and reflections with national colleagues and also take learning away from the sector too. Conversations like today are important and even if an area is starting again, there is support, a framework and professional expertise to help build. It can’t run without resources and clearly further consideration is needed nationally. It’s not easy. Whilst crucially important, it’s not just resources, it’s more understanding of the impact youth work can have, more Higher Education routes and greater recognition of the profession at all levels. All possible. It was energising to hear from Department for Culture, Media and Sport colleagues about their understanding and championing of youth work. The next chapters may just be a little more hopeful. Join us Monday afternoon 4:30pm in the Multicultural Student Services Center at URI for a virtual engagement with Migrant Justice, a New England based organization that brings together the farmworker community to discuss and analyze shared problems and to envision collective solutions. Through their ongoing investment in leadership development, members deepen their skills in community education and organizing for long-term systemic change. From this basis their members have defined community problems as a denial of rights and dignity and have prioritized building a movement to secure these fundamental human rights to 1) Dignified Work and Quality Housing; 2) Freedom of Movement and Access to Transportation; 3) Freedom from discrimination; 4) Access to Health Care.

Some individuals in power will not make the honorable choice. However, as a community, we can choose to stop expecting positive change from these individuals and instead dedicate our resources to building infrastructure that enhances the lives of everyone. We can start by prioritizing support for the disenfranchised and disinherited to create a more equitable and just society. This might mean establishing our own schools, creating our own jobs, and voting outside party lines.

🌟 Education and community participation are two sides of the same coin when it comes to societal development. Education equips individuals with knowledge and skills, enabling them to contribute meaningfully to their communities. When people actively engage with their communities, they apply their education to solve real-world problems, fostering positive change and a sense of unity. 📚 📆 #EducationForDevelopment #CommunityParticipation #SocietalDevelopment #KnowledgeAndSkills #PositiveChange #UnityInCommunity #EducationMatters #CommunityEngagement #col1920
