Simple, yet covers so many bases, this headline is genius.

💗 We're loving this simple yet highly distinctive brand campaign from The Coca-Cola Company. Designed to look like a close-up of a can, the artwork evokes emotion by making its brand codes the hero of the artwork – its iconic red can, the distinct logo font, and the oh-so-refreshing condensation you crave from a cold can. Research by JCDecaux New Zealand found that ads with strong brand codes not only increase mental availability by an average of 13% (versus weakly coded ads), they are also, on average, 31% more liked. #changetheconversation #outdooradvertising #creativeeffectiveness

Don’t let it go stale / Creative consistency is key to marketing effectiveness, but it’s important to find new ways to refresh a long-running positioning or marketing tagline. 🍯 Marmite debuted its ‘You either love it or hate it’ slogan in 1996 and has created countless creative executions on it since, embedding the idea in people’s minds (to the point where ‘Marmite’ works as an adjective). 🎯 This clarity and continuity means the brand can build on an established theme time and time again, not having to waste precious media space on giving context or explanations. 🏥 The Marmite Baby Scans took place at clinics in the UK; participants were given Marmite samples 20 minutes before their scans and were told afterwards if they were having a lover or a hater. A controversial ad with 120 complaints in New Zealand and one in Australia, remains one of the most popular and appreciated ads for its creativity. #GoodAdsMatter The idea for this 1999 advertisement, considered 'Kiwi pop culture magic,' originated as a notorious way of highlighting and re-establishing the durability and strength of the Toyota Hilux, a utility vehicle predominantly favoured by farmers. Created by Saatchi & Saatchi, it showcases a series of mishaps and foolish blunders by a farmer who unknowingly underestimates the incredible power of his own Hilux, leading him to utter the swear word. The word was deemed inappropriate by the public, resulting in the ad being taken down but later reinstated. However, this didn't prevent the ad from receiving accolades for its humour or the Hilux from becoming the top-selling utility vehicle in New Zealand, maintaining that position for 30 years, most likely due to the country's sizeable farming population. One of the best compliments I’ve ever gotten on our work was- that gave me a BIG WOW. Literal shivers ran through me. I love nailing it! On this particular project, we had an all hands ideation session, which included going for an inspiration walk, complete with a stop at a bakery for treats. We threw out all the wild ideas and ran with them. It was a mad men esque process, but with funky lettuce replacing bourbon. I haven’t quite front loaded projects in the past like I did this one- but we had 6 SKUs to sort through so I thought it would be worth it. And boy was it ever. Ideation matters. Creativity matters. Ogilvy ads. First for LEGO. The concept is Build the Future. Then for Rolls-Royce. Their famous headline, “At 60 miles an hour the loudest noise in this new Rolls-Royce comes from the electric clock.” Last one, for KFC. The campaign is called Flames. Creatives find inspiration in the wackiest of places. For me, it started with Wacky Packages. For those of you who aren't old enough to remember, Wacky Packages was a popular series of trading cards/stickers that were first introduced by The Topps Company in the late 1960s. The sticker cards spoofed brands that were well-known and recognizable at the time. Pampers diapers became Dampers, Crest toothpaste was transformed into Crust, and Hawaiian Punch morphed into Hawaiian Punks. The illustrations were silly, edgy, and no brand was off-limits. Looking back, I think their tongue-in-cheek take on these brands is what made me pay closer attention to the real products on the shelf. Every time my Mom took me to the grocery store, I would compare the Wacky Package stickers to the products they were mimicking and look for the subtle differences in the illustrations, color, size, and font positioning. This attention to detail made me appreciate what went into making a brand and its products unique and memorable. In short, I was obsessed. So 42 years later, thank you Wacky Packages. Although I wasn't old enough to realize it at the time, you planted the seed for what would eventually grow into a life-long love of branding and content creation. And also the realization that injecting a little humor into your storytelling every once in a while can be both fun and effective. To all of the quirky creatives out there, keep doing your thing. And don't forget that every time you put a piece of content out into the real world, it just might be seen by a 10-year-old future content creator who years later will remember it as the start of something truly inspirational. #wackywednesday #creativity #marketing
