📢 DEG has committed a loan of USD 25 million to the Mexican #GreenBanking pioneer CIBANCO, S.A.. The financing will enable the future growth of CIBanco's loan portfolio in the productive sector and thus help to close the financing gap for local companies, among other things. 💚 Having started to establish a #GreenStrategy ten years ago and calling itself the first green bank of Mexico, CIBanco has developed a green loan portfolio, offering, for example, solar panel loans. CIBanco additionally offers financial incentives for clients that commit themselves to a set of #sustainability principles.   🌳 CIBanco is the first Mexican bank to adopt the Equator Principles, a set of guidelines on environmental risks for project finance. The bank is also part of the United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI), whose objective is to promote responsible finance and sustainable development. #fin4dev

The guidelines now developed by DEG and its subsidiaries are an initial approach to identifying, categorizing, evaluating and mitigating ESG-related risks in #TechnologyInvestments. 📢 Heute erschienen: Der entwicklungspolitische Bericht der DEG für das Jahr 2023! 💪 Trotz politischer Unsicherheiten und Marktvolatilitäten waren unsere Investitionen in 2023 nicht nur wirtschaftlich erfolgreich, sondern erzielten auch erhebliche positive #Entwicklungswirkungen: Die von der DEG finanzierten Unternehmen erwirtschafteten im vergangenen Jahr lokale Einkommen in Höhe von 235 Mrd. EUR – d.h. über 12 % mehr als im Vorjahr. Mit 3,3 Millionen ist auch die Zahl der von den Unternehmen in Entwicklungsländern beschäftigten Menschen gestiegen. 💚 Auch die Beiträge der DEG-Kunden zu den globalen Nachhaltigkeitszielen #SDGs sind weiterhin hoch: 85 % der Kunden haben sich wirtschaftlich erfolgreich entwickelt und tragen durch höheres lokales Einkommen zur Armutsbekämpfung bei. Die von der DEG mitfinanzierten Energieversorger produzieren jährlich rund 32 TWh Strom aus erneuerbarer Energie und können damit aktuell über 32 Millionen Menschen versorgen. So werden 22 Mio. t CO2-Emissionen vermieden. 💡📏 Die Entwicklungswirkungen ihrer Investitionen sind ein zentrales Steuerungsinstrument für die DEG, die sie seit 2017 mit dem von ihr entwickelten #DevelopmentEffectivenessRating (DERa) misst. Die Auswertung des DEG-Portfolios 2023 zeigt: 76 % der DEG-Kunden leisten einen Beitrag zu #Innovation durch neue Technologien und fast 85 % engagieren sich gemeinnützig, z. B. für Bildung und Gesundheit. Mit dem weiterentwickelten Rating DERa 2.0 soll zukünftig unter anderem die durch die DEG geförderte #Transformation stärker in die Wirkungsmessung einbezogen werden. 🌞🔋For the first time, DEG is financing the construction and operation of a 200 MW solar power plant and a 500 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in the Tashkent region of Uzbekistan.  DEG is co-financing this 100% green project with a senior loan alongside our partners KfW IPEX-Bank, EBRD, Standard Chartered, Proparco and Islamic Development Bank (IsDB). ⚡️ The project is an important step in Uzbekistan’s efforts to integrate renewable energy sources into the energy mix and highlights the growing importance of battery storage in enhancing grid stability.
