Does the U.S. need NATO? If NATO didn’t exist. We would need to create something new just like it. NATO is an anchor in a geopolitical environment of continuous change. NATO activating Article 5 after 9/11 stands a one example. As the Marshall plan benefited both Europe and the U.S. – would accelerate recovery and check communist opposition – forming NATO provided a means to bind democracies together. The logic underlying of institution-based order created post-WWII was aimed at mitigating nationalist propensities, along with uniting to confront a worsening situation with Stalin’s USSR.   The creation of diplomatic, economic, and defense institutions following WWII acknowledged the wisdom of history whispering the need to provide ways and means for states, prone to focus on their own internal interests, to cooperate with restraint and assurances. #OTD in 1991, after 36 years in existence, the Warsaw Pact—the military alliance between the Soviet Union and its eastern European satellites—came to an end. This marked the beginning of the end of the eastern defense alliance, founded in May 1955. Two years later, the Marshall Center would be established by Germany and the United States as a strong German-American partnership center for security studies that could support the challenging transformation of the former communist states and societies into democratic and well-governed countries that would eventually integrate into Western security structures, such as NATO and the EU. Establishing a working system of security cooperation with former Warsaw Pact countries and former Soviet republics was at the core of the Marshall Center’s work during its first decade. 🕊 #EndOfAnEra #HistoricDecision #GCMC #securitycooperation

🤝 #NATO & #Ukraine 🇺🇦 are collaborating to establish the Joint Analysis Training and Education Centre in Poland 🇵🇱, aimed at enhancing the Ukrainian armed forces' ability to defend & operate seamlessly with NATO. This game-changing initiative marks a significant milestone in the NATO-Ukraine relationship. At the 75th Anniversary #NATOSummit, the Washington Summit Declaration reaffirmed NATO's commitment to Ukraine, with the establishment of the Joint Analysis Training and Education Centre being one of key elements of this commitment. The Centre will focus on developing the Ukrainian armed forces' ability to defend, deter, and operate seamlessly with NATO forces.
