It was great to bring the full Deep Genomics team together in Toronto this past week — and you can see some of what we got up to in the photos below! Our days were spent in live brainstorms with our teams, taking updated headshots, and spending focused time with our leaders to strengthen the support for our employees and culture; all before we took the chance to wind down and socialise (and play some video games too - make sure you scroll to the last photo…) We’re continuing to grow this incredible team. It’s important that as we grow, so do the connections between us all. That’s why we’re hosting these events quarterly, giving us as much “face time” as possible and bringing us closer together! So yeah, 10 years at 10x Genomics! For those wondering what it's like to work at the same company for a decade, well I can’t say I know, because 10x has hardly been the same company over this period of time! The company grew so much over the years to tackle the increasing complexity of the technologies that we develop. This leads to increasingly growing opportunities to expand one's horizons, keep discovering and learning from others, and keep rising to new challenges and aspirations. The secret sauce? 10x's super power lies in bringing together a world class #team of scientists and professionals with diversified backgrounds, and fostering genuine #collaboration to fuel #innovation and the creative design and development of novel robust technologies. Seeing these tools empower the scientific community and contribute to the #discovery of disease attributes, developmental pathways and immunological fundamentals is so fulfilling, exhilarating and humbling. I am so fortunate to be part of this incredible journey, and I can only look forward to the next decade to continue accelerating the mastery of biology to advance human health.

🤓 Nerd Alert @ the inbiome HQ 🤓 Take a quick peak at the weekly research gathering of our team! Each thursday morning all team divisions (IT, R&D, QA, Lab Operations, Commercial, Leadership) sit in one room to explore together either our own research questions or interesting science around us. While two weeks ago we discussed the latest experiments of one the sample types we are studying, today our founders brought us the freshest bits from the ASM Microbe Conference in Atlanta. New technologies, potential partnerships...so much inspiration to keep on radically accelerating human healthcare 🚀 #inbiome #MolecularCulture #fastdiagnostics #nerdalert

We all know times can be tough, and as a business leader it's what you do when the chips are down that really makes your reputation. Whilst Bionano are reducing their workforce, it would be all too easy to just leave it there. Neil has instead taken to LinkedIn to find new roles for the great team they are unfortunately having to let go. Great example to set. Please share his original message to make sure these people are snapped up quickly. #Leadership #LifeSciences
Unfortunately, last week Bionano notified many employees that their positions will be affected by a reduction in force. In addition to cuts from every department, we're losing some very talented bioinformaticians with a range of experience levels - if you or someone you know is looking to hire, drop me a line and I will be happy to put you in touch with some top notch people.

Cell/Gene Therapy problem solver, Flow Cytometrist, Assay Validator, and Immunology/Sales enthusiast
Here's a post I'd hoped never to have to make. After more than 2 amazing years at Slingshot Biosciences, my position (along with an unfortunate number of amazing coworkers) was eliminated in a #strategicreorganization. While still shocked about the #layoff, I am intensely proud of what we accomplished against incredible odds. I could not have asked for a better environment to grow into my first commercial role and am so grateful to the many awesome people who made my time at Slingshot such a joy. I learned so much about #flowcytometry, #celltherapy, #biologics, #mRNAvaccines, #analyticaldevelopment, #startups, and most importantly how much I loved working with our many wonderful clients, collaborators, and friends. One skill I developed at Slingshot for situations like this is to take a deep breath, identify my goals, prioritize the next steps, and move forward. As such I’m now #opentowork and am looking for #sales, #businessdevelopment, #scientificaffairs, #applicationscience, or similar roles where I can use my #passion for flow cytometry, #immunology, and #science to support cutting-edge cures. If you’ve stayed with me this far and want to help, thank you! Here’s how: 1. If we had positive interactions, please make a recommendation on my profile highlighting what you enjoyed about our time together so future colleagues can get a clearer picture of what I have to offer. 2. If you know of a role that might be a fit for me or any of my affected colleagues, please send it my way. 3. Check out my profile on biobuzz.io or my AMA (see below). 4. Keep an eye out for my upcoming blog/newsletter covering topics in assay development, cytometry, and whatever else I find interesting. 5. Keep in touch! One of the best parts of my time at Slingshot was meeting all of you awesome people. Thank you for reading; I know something amazing is waiting out there for me and I look forward to finding it! https://lnkd.in/eyhz3vvC

An increasing risk as a scientist/RA within biotech R&D is that if you do good science and the research works — you may soon be finding yourself out of a job. As an industry we’re often focused on founders but for bio to thrive we need an ecosystem where success for a company is also success for all those who work there. Are R&D layoffs after a successful trial just the new norm now? Seems like weird incentives to me for R&D teams https://lnkd.in/gjEzJeDK

I want to talk to you about Viagra for a moment... Part of the Cambridge Future Tech mission is to turn unloved and overlooked deep-tech innovation into disruptive global ventures. What better example of a world-changing innovation that could have easily ended up on the cutting room floor than that of the little blue pill. Over twenty years ago, a medical laboratory stumbled upon an opportunity which happened to *ahem* present itself. Whilst lab testing a new drug designed to treat cardiovascular problems, some volunteers appeared curiously reluctant to report any changes – some flatly refused. When questioned, they coyly admitted to experiencing unexpected benefits in other parts of their anatomy. The research team refocused their goals and discovered that the test drug got hearts racing in a very different sense. Their adaptation to this market feedback would kick-start a global innovation success and would result in bringing in tens of billions in revenue. It was the perfect combination of scientific rigour with commercial common sense. This was the Viagra moment. But what will be the next? #deeptech #innovation
