We are now in GW territory. I remember when 5MW was a large scale wholesale Colocation contract, slowly we crept up to 20MW, then 50MW and 100MW Campus designs. In today's world of AI we are talking GW campus designs and developments all in a very short space of time. The strain this puts on the industry in terms of people & resources, supply chain & manufacturing, innovation and construction not to mention the need to do all of this in a highly sustainable way paying very close attention to new regulation and legislation. Carefully selecting strategic investment, technology, design, innovation, manufacturing, construction & legal partners to support the execution of business plans in what is essentially a race to the top will be crucial. #hyperscale #sustainability #colocation #energyefficiency #ai iMasons Climate Accord The European Data Centre Association - EUDCA Net Zero Innovation Hub for Data Centers Microsoft Google Amazon Web Services (AWS) Schneider Electric #lifeison

Microsoft to build ‘hyperscale’ datacentre near Leeds Tech giant Microsoft has bought a 48-acre site at the former Skelton Grange power station site near Leeds to build another #hyperscaledatacentre as it ramps up investment in the UK. The Skelton Grange hyperscale centre is expected to be similar to Microsoft's planned Imperial Park #DataCentre in Newport that is presently out to tender Over the next three years, Microsoft plans to spend £2.5bn on expanding its next-generation #AI datacenter #infrastructure, bringing more than 20,000 of the most advanced graphics processing units (GPUs) to the UK by 2026. This represents the single largest investment in its 40-year history in the UK. Its other schemes are planned for sites in London, Newport and Eggborough. Bouygues Construction and McLaren Construction Group are bidding for the Newport scheme known as Imperial Park on the site of the former Quinn Radiator Factory. Mace is building another at Park Royal in North London where work got underway last summer. The third scheme at the former Eggborough power station in North Yorkshire is due to go for planning shortly with construction pencilled to start in 2027. The latest site acquisition at Skelton Grange power station was sold by Harworth Group for £107m. Harworth has remediated the site and secured planning permission for 1.1m sq ft industrial and logistics hub to the south east of Leeds city centre. This may allow the scheme to advance more quickly than Eggborough. Once the full planned development is complete, Skelton Grange is expected to provide 250,000 sq ft of Grade A industrial and logistics space, the hyperscale datacentre, a 100MW Battery Energy Storage System and an Energy from Waste facility. Around 28 acres of land will also be returned to natural habitat alongside improved green travel infrastructure, which Harworth estimates will represent in excess of £4bn of inward investment providing a substantial boost to the local economy. Harworth said the Skelton Grange scheme provided a template for its growth strategy going forward. This will be focused on development of next generation of industrial and logistics sites alongside complementary energy infrastructure. https://lnkd.in/ef8n7HH7

#Microsoft to build #datacentre campus on former #powerstation site in North #Yorkshire, UK Two-building #campus coming to Eggborough Microsoft is proposing to develop a new UK #datacenter campus on the site of a decommissioned power station in Eggborough, North Yorkshire. “On 21 and 22 February Microsoft hosted two community events to present our proposals for a new data centre on part of the site of the former Eggborough Power Station to the local #community,” the company said in a recent community blog. According to the linked presentation, Microsoft aims to build two #twostory data centres on part of the former Eggborough power station. Further specifications weren’t shared. “Our proposals for a new data centre will bring this former industrial site back into employment use,” Microsoft said in the presentation. “Currently the site is being cleared to prepare the area for development. Our proposals represent one plot of the wider site.” Microsoft said it is aiming to submit the proposals for #planningpermission to North Yorkshire Council in Mid-2024 and start #construction in early 2027. Located east of #Leeds and west of #Hull, Eggborough Power Station was a coal-fired power station launched in 1967. With a generating capacity of 1,960MW, the site's closure was originally announced in September 2015 but delayed until 2018. #Demolition works began in 2020. There had been plans to convert the #station to #biomass around 2013, but this scheme was dropped after the transition was described as #unaffordable. Energetický a průmyslový holding, a.s. (EPH), owners of Eggborough Power Ltd, has proposed a new 2,500MW gas-fired power plant on the site and gained government permission for the project in 2018. Eggborough power station was bought by St Francis Group in 2019, with a plan to demolish the power station and build warehouse units in its place. The new EPH gas plant is set to be built on land adjacent to the redevelopment.
