Striking the right balance between innovation and safety is crucial to realizing the potential of #AI. Rather than attempt to regulate AI as a technology as such, policymakers should instead focus on potential harms the technology poses as applied, in specific use cases. When new regulation is necessary, it is useful to focus on whether and how AI is used to make consequential decisions that directly affect people’s lives. To assist policymakers in their efforts, this memorandum offers principles for how best to approach AI regulation to protect people while allowing innovation and creativity to thrive. Today, we’re delighted to share v1.0.0 of the D&TA Data Provenance Standards—designed to provide transparency into the origin and use of datasets for both #artificialintelligence and traditional #data applications. Since we last shared a draft in November, there has been much progress: The standards have been tested and validated by 50 organizations inside and outside the Alliance. We’re mapping to other frameworks and standards, and have built an adoption kit to support implementation. We are speaking to data providers and toolset providers about adoption. The goal? Ecosystem-wide adoption to increase transparency in data. Today, we are pleased to share Data & Trust Alliance’s "Policy Recommendations for the Responsible Use of Artificial Intelligence.” This paper is a roadmap for industry, government, and civil society collaboration on AI governance that promotes innovation and competition while proactively prioritizing safety and security for all stakeholders. The policy recommendations were developed by data, AI, ethics, compliance, data privacy, policy and legal experts from Alliance companies including AARP General Motors Howso Humana IBM Mastercard Meta National Football League (NFL) Nielsen Nike Transcarent Warby Parker and Walmart We hope these recommendations are constructive as society and innovation progress and we look forward to examining these and other topics in more detail.
