To say this day brings a lot of emotions would probably be an understatement. I was at the Super Bowl Parade on Valentine's Day with my 12-year-old son. We had the time of our lives. The night before, we had made a last second decision to stand along Grand instead of being at Union Station where I had been for the previous two championship parades (once as a reporter, and once as a mother and fan). A decision that turned out quite possibly to be a life-saving one. Never could I have imagined that in the car ride home, we'd be hearing reports of a mass shooting at the rally site. People fleeing for safety and finding shelter anywhere they could. One person would not make it home that day alive. I was sad for this city I've called home for seven years, but also not tremendously surprised. Violence rocks our community almost every day in #KansasCity. But what #KCStrong showed us, is that when we care about those left in its wake, we can have a tremendous impact. Over the course of about three months, KC Strong--a collaboration between United Way of Greater Kansas City and the Kansas City Chiefs garnered $2M in support from more than 4,000 individual donors. Today, every penny of that money is being invested to help 20 gunshot victims in their journey of healing and to support the critical work of 14 community organizations determined to help our region heal, build upon anti-violence prevention work, support mental healthcare needs, and to assist first responders. These investments may well have a generational impact. The past four months have not always been easy. The work has been under the intensity of the media spotlight, one that I stood on the other side of for 15 years. We've fielded hundreds of questions and concerns, and our 211 team has provided pivotal assistance to get help and resources directed more immediately to those in need. It's been a massive undertaking. At times, it's felt overwhelming. But today, I am proud. Today, I know our impact is being felt in a very real and meaningful way. Today, we are reminded of the power of our community and that we are forever KC Strong. #nonprofits #nonprofitleadership #kansascity #kcstrong #unitedway https://lnkd.in/g-SXBPUW

This is a great share from Arun Chauhan - FICA, Prof.PgDip (FCC) on the recent Home Affairs Select Committee's inquiry. Views from many who are highlighting the impact of economic crime on our societies, and economies. -There's no doubt that this form of crime is a threat to our national security -Data/intelligence sharing from everyone involved in the chain of fraud to mitigate this is crucial -Holding social media platforms accountable for the fraud that originates on their platforms -The vast majority of fraud in the FS sector originates in some form outside of the UK border Our MP's are waking up to the impact that fraud has, but more needs to be done. -Fraud isn't just about the financial services sector, it's much bigger than that. Retail fraud, insurance fraud, benefit fraud to mention a few -The UK alone loses over two hundred billion a year to this crime. I wonder if this was put on the side of a bus, would it grab more attention! -Some people's attitudes to certain fraud types have changed, and don't view it as a crime More regulatory changes are happening this year which will do more to protect people. The payment systems regulator, EC&CT act holding institutions more accountable for their systems/risk models, and more parts to consumer duty that was launched in July 2023. This topic isn't just for those in the economic crime community, fraud impacts everyone. You will know someone who has been affected, or you might have been yourself. Engagement and education are key to help combat this ever increasing issue 👍

Human traffickers often groom potential victims by creating fake personas on social media to build trust and manipulate vulnerabilities. They invest time, effort, and sometimes money to isolate victims, exploit emotions, and maintain control. Grooming involves a deliberate process of establishing relationships to lower defenses and make victims more susceptible to exploitation.
