Voting today is like running a search for a role you know is unfillable. The client has had 5 different people in the position in the last 8 years and you’re just praying they don’t question your rebate terms because the chance of someone sticking in the role beyond Christmas is slim to none. None of your shortlisted candidates tick more than 25% of the job spec. All their final stage presentations are poorly costed, lack any form of evidence-based arguments, and read like they were hastily concocted by an AI with a hangover and an addiction to hyperbole. You know the candidates don’t really want the job, but they’re all available immediately so it’s all you’ve got to work with. Most will fail any kind of rudimentary social media background check anyway. All the decision makers on the interview panel disagree with each other, and spend more time blaming others for what’s gone wrong in the role, rather than coming up with ideas to turn it around. There is literally no way to find a candidate to please them all, and you’re lucky if even 70% of them will actually give you any feedback at all. And the icing on the cake is that there are disgruntled internal candidates chomping at the bit to sabotage whoever end up in the role as soon as they start. Oh well, at least the weather is nice and it gets you out the house for an hour. Happy voting everyone – whichever way you’re leaning - and don’t forget your photo ID! #recruitment #professionalservices #executivesearch #election #vote
So true! Makes me yearn for a return to the 'good 'ole days',... an impossibility I'm sure given the challenges that might present for recruiters. :)
Indeed, and very well put. Finding dysfunctional recruitment analogies in today's political world is depressingly easy.
So true Daniel

3wWhat's not to love about "hastily concocted by an AI with a hangover and an addiction to hyperbole"? Bravo Daniel Shaw
