Please let me explain "Marshall for All" so that people really understand why this is a huge deal:
"Marshall University has launched Marshall for All this year with hopes to expand over the next 10 years, allowing Marshall students to combine scholarships, grants, work opportunities and family contributions to earn their bachelor’s degrees without needing student loans. In return, it asks students to maintain 15 credit hours per semester with satisfactory academic progress, to file a FAFSA form annually, to work a paid internship or federal work study position, to complete a financial literacy course and to participate in career readiness and/or other learning experiences."
The ultimate goals---graduate debt free, get some work experience while they're at it, achieve academically, and learn how to get a job when they graduate. If they can do all that, they are ready to take on the world!
Kudos Brad Smith, this is a great plan! To the rest of the Marshall family---it's up to all of us to help raise money for those scholarships. We know all too well that many West Virginia families just can't afford to pay tuition. A lot of these kids are being raised by grandparents. That's where we come in--maybe we can't give millions, but all of us can give something. And those dollars add up and can help young people just like the ones in this inaugural class.
Let's Go Herd!
