How are you celebrating STEM day 2023? We’re looking forward to our next Hackathon Challenge with Ulster University Computer Science Department. We’re looking back at the projects that the Ulster students who have spent their year in industry with us have worked on. And we’re researching more commercial placement opportunities that will help us invest in the next generation of STEM students. Research shows that early exposure to STEM subjects lays the foundation for students to explore STEM careers. By supporting STEM education, we are encouraging bright minds to enter tech. We face a national crisis in getting students to and through college earning a 2 or 4-year STEM degree. 75% of Pathways in Technology Early College High School August 2015 college ready high school graduates earned CUNY New York City College of Technology 2-year STEM degree 2015-2017 Sunday, August 6, 2023, Matching Eighth Graders With a STEM Education The New York Times New York City’s school system is the largest in the country and has arguably the most complicated system for placing students in high school. They can choose up to 12 schools, ranking them in order of preference. The schools then go through their own ranking process, and a computer makes a match. STEM Supports Alternative Learning Methods STEM education at it's core supports students who learn in different ways, as STEM often relies on project-based learning strategies that challenge students to approach the task in different ways. There are traditionally considered to be four major learning types: visual, auditory, reading/writing, and kinesthetic. While many STEM projects obviously lend themselves to kinesthetic learning in unique ways, all learning styles can be integrated into successful STEM programs. Think STEM the future of work!

At yesterday's National Honor Society induction at Pathways in Technology Early College High School a grandmother watched her third grandchild be inducted. The other two grandchildren earned the free 2-year STEM degree in 12th grade, persisted earned a 4-year degree and a master's degree. MDRC P-TECH 9-14 Evaluation "By the end of the first year of postsecondary education, 2.6 percent of female and 1.8 percent of male P-TECH 9-14 students had earned degrees, compared with virtually no students from the comparison group, of either gender. These impacts for both genders are statistically significant".
