7 things I know at 44 that I wish I knew at 24 1. Do cardio for a longer life. Lift weights for quality of life. 2. Most problems can be solved with a 20 minute walk in nature without your phone. 3. Your diet will dictate your mood and energy. 4. Sleep is the best legal performance enhancing drug on the planet. You sleep for 1/3 of your life. Might as well make it good. 5. Experiences over things. Accumulating things in your life means taking care of more stuff. When looking back you won't remember the things but you will recount the experiences. 6. Having and taking care of children is one of life's greatest experiences. 7. Getting your body in shape and building a business are 2 effective paths to self improvement. They will teach you more about yourself than any book ever could. ✍🏼 Agree or disagree? ♻️ Reshare if this was helpful. - Dan Ps. If you liked this post you'll enjoy my newsletter. I learned #2 the hard way. In 1992, after staying in my cubicle for many hours trying to debug a major coding issue, I gave up at 1AM and called a car service to go home (yes, those were the days). As soon as I walked out of the building, the solution came to me as if I achieved enlightenment. I smartly kept on walking to the car and fixed it the next morning. Always step away from issues. The change in perspective is invaluable! PS. Taking a long shower works too!

I'd say another notable mention that doesn't get enough love in the health and wellness space is a thriving social life. Maybe not necessarily to the point of boozing every weekend but friendship and community is massively important for health, joy, and longevity

These are all spot on. However, nearly everyone will look at this list and become overwhelmed with anxiety. But not for the reasons you think. The problem isn’t getting people to do these things. The problem to solve is getting people to WANT to do these things. That’s the big one. And that’s my startup.

I’d add that I’ve learned by being greatful and giving back (in whatever form that might take) brings meaning to life and kills self importance or any self pity.

Dan Go totally agree with 5 and 6 others I have questions 1 just exercise is the key and weights for quality of life shy ? 3 my diet been OK but has no impact on my energy or mood. Number 7 absolutely N0 there is zero correlation to self improvement between the two. As a 63 year old who has had 2 successful businesses and numerous health issues cannot tick that box

A few points firstly you will get plenty of sleep when you pass away. I remember when I was on Brent Bravo it was a concrete leg oil platform. We had various tests to carry at the end of a nightshirt for day shift permits. We would take the lift down and walk out Carrying out our tests. I can’t remember the depth but it was way below sea level this kept you fit. Also walking from the cellar deck to the drilling derrick on a oil rig was not a small feat.
