This is truly the way forward. Oil producers are still essential to our energy supply needs and will remain so for some time to come but with increasing pressure to look at more sustainable and “green” sources of power, oil wil eventually lose some of its “lustre” and oil prices may decline. However right now most oil companies are cash flush, so assembling a team of market leading investment bankers to use the abundant capital oil giants have at their disposal to diversify their business is certainly a very astute and clever move.

Outstanding ESG sukuk rose by 66% yoy to reach USD33.3 billion globally as of end-3Q23, and Fitch Ratings expects further growth over the medium term. The segment’s growth is driven primarily by governments’ sustainability initiatives and issuers’ funding diversification goals towards both the sharia and ESG-sensitive investors. ESG sukuk is expected to cross 7.5% of global outstanding sukuk by 2028 (3Q23: 4.1%). However, the segment is not immune from debt capital market (DCM) volatilities. Digitalization is on top of everyone’s mind these days. DNB was so kind to invite FLEX LNG, Avance Gas and a lot of other shipping companies to their Annual Energy and Shipping Conference in Oslo this week, graciously co-hosted by Alexander Opstad and Jan Ole Huseby. Lot of talk about digitalization and AI even in a industry like shipping which a lot of people perceive as.. well to be honest.. a bit old fashioned, although they are wrong. In any case, DNB has always been in forefront of technological inovation and I believe this is one of the reasons for their stellar record of delivering shareholder returns. However, I know DNB excel at digitalization, but I must admit that I was particularly impressed that they have even managed to digitalize their soap at the restrooms.
