Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month celebrates the contributions of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders to the rich tapestry of American culture and history. AAPI workers have played significant roles in labor movements throughout American history. From the Chinese railroad workers in the 19th century to the Filipino farmworkers in the Delano Grape Strike, AAPI individuals have been instrumental in advocating for workers' rights, fair wages, and better working conditions. In celebrating AAPI Heritage Month, it's essential to recognize and honor the diverse experiences and struggles of AAPI workers. This includes acknowledging challenges, such as discrimination, exploitation, and the fight for equal treatment within the labor movement. By amplifying AAPI voices and stories, we can work toward building a more inclusive and equitable labor movement that uplifts all workers, regardless of their race, ethnicity, or background. #UnionStrong #AsianAmericanPacificIslanderHeritageMonth

Part 9 of the BHR Journal Blog Symposium includes a marvelous essay n the situation in #brasil. Some points made that may be worth foregrounding from the rich analysis: 1. One of the most interesting aspects of the Brazilian periphery is the extent to which an organized civil society, mostly united in solidarity to a broadly coherent set of objectives, can play an important role in shaping a national project for BHR. Tied to that is the somewhat complicated relationship of civil society to the #UNGP which is quite well considered by Lucena Carneiro and Albieri Laureano. And overlaying all of this are the political realities of many States on the periphery (and leading states as well) that find their polities close to equally divided on both major issues and issues of implementation. * * * 2. Within that framework the UNGP become themselves a complicated semiotic totem as well as a strategic instrument within the political arena in which civil society plays an important role. In its entirety, the UNGP is deployed as an idea. . . a failure of the realization of those aspirations for which action at the national level is required. In this sense it represents both the threat or danger of ideas and positions from outside and the foundation for making it better.. . and as the guardrails for moving forward. 3. That self-referencing closed loop of BHR discussion around the UNGP parallels the master narrative of global production current especially in Latin America since the assassination of Allende in the late 1970s. * * *The problem is the way that the State--and its governmental apparatus, and perhaps even its successors to the colonial encomiendistas, may be tempted to use the cover of international supply chain based liability to avoid liability for their own facilitation, corruption, and complicity--as individuals and in their role as holders of State power. 4. Perhaps the most important insight from this marvelous essay is the way in which the UNGP, when applied, even in the context of State reporting, can serve as a catalyst to necessary political action by organized civil society. But disasters also matter as important social and political triggers. #derechoshumanos #hrdd #bizhumanrights Symposium on Business and Human Rights (BHR) Regulatory Initiatives Outside Europe: Part 9: Cristiane Lucena Carneiro and Nathalie Albieri Laureano --"Regulatory Initiatives on Business and Human Rights in Brazil – From the Domestic to the International and Back? Today is an inspiring day 👩💻 I just finished a very useful career coaching session in Yayasan Mestara Perempuan Berdaya with my mentor, Binar Septiani. The process opened my eyes to my potential and helped me plan clear steps to achieve my career goals. I'm grateful for your support, talk to you later! This was followed by a mentoring session with Galuh Rohmah. I didn't expect this session to go overtime with so many insights that were too good to miss. Especially regarding salaries, which in fact in Indonesia the average salary of women is 22.09% lower than men. It's ironic, but it motivates me to open up to fellow women to ask for salaries so that we know we're not underpaid. Now, I want to hear your stories, guys. Have you noticed this around you? How did you react? Let's discuss and support each other to achieve our career goals as empowered women 🚀 Source: https://lnkd.in/gXFgzBUZ #CareerCoaching #PersonalDevelopment #PersonalGrowth #MestaraMentorship #wagegap #genderpaygap

Pre-Tender Engagement - the focus 🎯 and holy grail 🏆 for most bid teams. Often the purview of mature bidding teams, the good news is that the Procurement Act 2023 wants public sector buyers to do more of it! 🤝 It's a shame some of its provisions will prevent that from happening in practice. 🤔 Have a quick look at my take on the new Pre-Tender Engagement opportunities and publication requirements in the Act and what they may result in... #publicprocurement #procurementreform #procurement #procurementleaders #publicprocurement #publicsector #bidmanagement #bidwriting #bids #bidmanager #tender #tendering #tenders #tendermanagement

[IHRP in the News - Legislation to prevent discrimination in the workplace is an important step for Singapore] Supporting the mediation-first approach to resolving workplace discrimination issues, CEO of Institute for Human Resource Professionals (IHRP) Aslam Sardar, PBM shares with Berita Harian that "a workplace that is too cautious and litigious will not be beneficial for either the employee or the employer. WFL will work in concert with the Tripartite Guidelines, providing the foundation for a harmonious relationship between employees and employers, which in turn helps increase employee engagement and productivity." Ms Li Lian Tan (IHRP-MP) and Group Chief Human Resources Officer of City Developments Limited, said that like other policies and legislation, to ensure Workplace Fairness Legislation can be implemented effectively it requires the efforts of all parties. This includes educational campaigns to raise the awareness of employers and employees about the types of discrimination and to foster a culture of empathy, respect and mutual understanding, she added. "Our ultimate goal is to ensure that all employees are treated fairly and have a fair chance to contribute and grow in their careers." 📰 Berita Harian https://lnkd.in/gq-HY7fT #IHRP #MOM #SNEF #NTUC #WorkplaceFairnessLegislation #FairEmploymentPractices
