*7 MISCONCEPTIONS AND FACTS ABOUT AMF, ATS & SYNCHRONIZING PANELS** 1. Automatic mains failure (AMF) panels, often referred to as Automatic transfer switch (ATS) panels. *Though, different terminology but the same in the sense they both make the power switch to emergency standby generators in the event of a significant loss of mains power or total blackout. 2. Without AMF/ATS panels, generators need to be operated manually and that can mean lost data, potential damage to electrical equipment, and huge amounts of disruption. 3. AMF /ATS panels monitor the incoming AC mains supply, activate the standby generator when mains power fails, and make an automatic electrical transfer of the building’s load from the mains to the generating set. When the mains supply returns, the AMF/ATS panel controls a return to the mains supply and shuts down the generator after a suitable cooling run time. 4. Monitoring a building’s incoming AC mains supply, AMF panels instantaneously activate the standby generator when mains power fails, automatically transferring a building’s load from the mains power supply to the backup generator after a warm-up time. Synchronization is the process of running two or more Gen sets in parallel on common bursar, while matching the characteristics of each system as closely as possible. This is accomplished by minimizing the phase-angle difference, frequency difference, voltage difference & matching phase sequence between the two systems. *Similarities* 6. They all have more than 1 (one) or multiple incomers(inputs) as electrical panel. *Differences* 7. Only Synchronizing Panel uses more a source at a time while AMF/ATS panel uses only a source at time though different sources are housed in a single enclosure but one source is used at a time.
