I love participating in the annual ACEC Rising Leader Program. One of the big takeaways I receive is the types of questions on the minds of the rising leaders: diversity, work-life balance, company values, and benefits. These questions help inform me of the trends and thoughts our new staff may be coming into the organization with on their minds. Thank you again to ACEC for allowing me to participate! #thekleingersgroup #thecivilceo #dotherightthing.
Big thanks to ACEC Ohio for facilitating a couple more great sessions as part of the 2023 Rising Leaders Program! Tony Comella gave an overview of Human Resources key concepts, staff sourcing/selection, and performance management in Session 2. Everest Marketing Services, LLC’s Barbara Shuck discussed Strategic Business Processes including SWOT analysis, growth strategies, and client relationship management in Session 3. And thank you to the local CEOs who came out for an open and informative panel discussion on issues, trends, and disrupters in the AEC Industry… Joy M. Never has there been a better time to make sure you have an #EventProducer for your events. The costs of bringing in a contracted expert far outweigh the loss in attendees if you do not meet your contracted deliverables. #associations are having to rethink their strategy coming out of the pandemic, if they don't they might not be around soon. Here are the Top 3 Takeaways: #1 Technology is Changing Association Management #2 Personalized Experiences Are Key (as an event producer this is ESSENTIAL) #3 Community is Everything After reading the article, what do you see as the biggest challenge for associations? #nonprofits #eventmanagement #eventprof #executivedirectors
3 Takeaways from the American Society for Association Executives Conference ⬇️ Maddy Madeley, our Vice President, has been on a mission to learn about the latest trends in association management. She recently attended the American Society for Association Executives (ASAE: The Center for Association Leadership) conference in Atlanta, Georgia to absorb a wealth of knowledge on how we can create more value for our clients and their communities. At this year's ASAE Annual Meeting, there were 5000 association executives from around the world, 132 facilitated sessions, and three keynotes filled with rich content! It was a great experience for Maddy to learn about what other associations are doing, how they’re trying to solve common problems within their organizations, and how they’re using technology to improve the member experience. To effectively develop and grow a membership association, it is key to clearly communicate the benefits, value propositions and differentiation to it’s members and stakeholders.
Associations must adapt to engage the next generation of members by rethinking membership models for flexibility and equity, clearly communicating value, and addressing early career engagement. Key strategies include: - Effective communication - Fostering safety - Promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) - Cultivating inclusive leadership - Providing robust professional development By embedding these practices into their mission and values, associations can attract and retain top talent, ensuring long-term success. 🎙️ Yesterday, I had the privilege of participating in a thought-provoking panel discussion on courageous conversations. It was an honor to share the stage with esteemed colleagues, and I walked away feeling inspired by the power of open dialogue. Here are a few strategies that emerged from our conversation that can help foster courageous conversations: 1️⃣ Active listening: Truly hearing and understanding the perspectives of others is essential for creating a safe space for courageous conversations. Practice active listening by giving your full attention, asking clarifying questions, and suspending judgment. 2️⃣ Embrace discomfort: Courageous conversations often involve addressing difficult topics that can make us feel uncomfortable. Embrace this discomfort and recognize it as an opportunity for growth and deeper understanding. Pushing beyond our comfort zones opens the door to meaningful change. 3️⃣ Cultivate empathy: Empathy forms the foundation of courageous conversations. Seek to understand the experiences and emotions of others, and approach conversations with empathy and compassion. This allows for a deeper connection and a more constructive dialogue. 4️⃣ Respectful communication: Effective communication is vital in any conversation, especially when discussing sensitive topics. Be mindful of your tone, choose your words carefully, and prioritize respect and kindness in your interactions. Remember, we can disagree without being disagreeable. 5️⃣ Seek common ground: Find common ground and shared values to bridge divides. Focus on areas of agreement and build upon them to foster understanding and collaboration. By seeking commonalities, we can establish a stronger foundation for courageous conversations. Let's continue these courageous conversations and create spaces where diverse perspectives are valued, understood, and celebrated. Together, we can drive positive change and create a more inclusive and equitable world. A very special thank you to Leadership Delaware, Inc. for extending the invite to participate and Goldey-Beacom College for hosting and for providing wonderful hospitality. #CourageousConversations #InclusionMatters #OpenDialogue
