Why hire a #CV or resume writer? Surely, AI could do it for me. 📝 LinkedIn is filled with posts about AI; the news is filled with posts about AI, and "free" online resume and CV platforms promise they can produce a resume in under a minute! But will that resume or CV get you the job? Well, maybe it "could" help you get your resume through an ATS system… but ATS is not just about those keywords. There is so much more that is important. It may allow you to apply for an entry-level role, or as a college or university leaver, it could help you kickstart your career. But if you are an executive looking for your next role, will AI help you secure the role? The question is, what is AI, and how is it helping? The answer is that AI is a tool, a fantastic tool that can support your writing, kickstart an idea or even produce the "bare bones" of a project. But can it write a well-crafted, impactful resume that resonates with the human behind it and showcases them as the best candidate for the job? Then, in my opinion, and that of many other writers, the answer is NO! AI systems require prompts to make them work; these prompts can often take more time to create than just writing from scratch. If you are faced with a blank page, AI can help you kickstart your writing; use it like we used to use an online thesaurus, not as a substitute but as a tool to improve the creative process. And, just like an app such as Grammarly, it can be useful with the right context and parameters. But for something authentic and genuine, AI can't be your only tool, you have to put some of yourself into it. The human voice behind the writing is what draws people in and makes them continue reading. This is something that AI can't replicate. It's the human connection in writing that makes a difference. A certified resume and CV writer knows how recruitment works, knows how a resume needs to be formatted and created to enable the parsing of an ATS system, they know how to present the "best" of you to a recruiter or hiring manager, and they know that these recruiters see 100's of resumes and CV's every month. Your resume or CV must stand out from the crowd, and if you cannot showcase yourself for that role, then now is the time to talk to a certified expert. Consider this: your career progression is an essential step toward your goal; your investment in your career documents can help that progression. An executive job change can be worth tens of thousands of dollars. Investing in your career is a question of ROI - Is it worth spending $500-$1000 once to generate a potential annual return many times that? CV Writer | Resume Writer | Digital Content Writer | Helping people to move forward in their professional lives.
If you want a new CV or an update on your current one, what choices do you have? 1) Put it through AI and get a generic CV. 2) Send it to a different CV writing company or CV writer and potentially get another ‘standard’ CV. 3) Get in touch with me for a CV that helps you stand out. Admittedly, I may be a little biased in recommending option 3, but I wanted to clarify why. AI It’s an incredible technology that could potentially have as great an impact on the world as the internet, however, the reality is that it can only reformulate information it has scraped off the internet. “AI is plagiarism software because it doesn’t create anything. It copies existing work, modifying it enough to escape copyright law.” Noam Chomsky, linguist and philosopher So, essentially, using AI to write your CV is like using uninspiring and scraggy leftovers to make a wonderful meal. You or whoever you’re cooking for deserve better than that. You deserve fresh ingredients, don’t you? Other CV Companies Disclaimer – There are many highly reputable CV writers and companies who have a similarly people-focused approach to me. In this instance, I’m referring to the CV factory type companies where you submit your CV to an anonymous email and then get a CV back without any contact. Everyone has their preferred way of working, but… How can they truly reflect who you are and what you can offer if they haven’t had the chance to get to know you, even a little? All they have is what you give them and sometimes that isn’t enough. Using people, coaching and yes, writing skills can all help in lifting a previously grey document into something that sparkles with energy and vitality. JNCV (aka me) My key point is that I believe it is essential for me, the writer, to have a meeting/video call with my client to get more of an insight into who they really are as maybe they don’t know how to present that on a CV. This is something that a CV factory-type company and at least at the moment, AI cannot do. Working with a writer is a commitment, not just financially, but also in your career. And yes, keywords are necessary to maximise ATS opportunities, but this isn’t CV bingo. It’s also important to create a well-written document that makes reading it as easy as possible for the recruiter to contact you immediately after they have read it because they know you’re perfect for that role they have. Others may prefer different methods, but this has always been my preferred way of working. I like to the look into the eyes of my clients, even if it is via a Zoom or Google Meet video call. Like many things in life, it’s about the people and building rapport and trust. It makes the process more personable and enjoyable for (hopefully) both parties. It’s always my aim to build rapport and trust with my clients to create a targeted and personalised CV to help get them the interview and the job that they want. #CV #CVwriter #CVwriting #resume #resumewriter #careercoaching

Is Relying on AI to Write Your Resumes a Good Idea or a Bad One? While it does seem like an easier and less stressful approach, especially when there are application deadlines involved, depending on AIs to write your resume is not the best choice. At least, it isn't if you want to increase your chances of actually landing an interview. Here are three major reasons why you shouldn't rely on AI to write your resume: 1️⃣ AIs lack human intuition, skill and emotion. Since AIs aren't human, they can't feel human emotions or perceive what can provoke particular actions or feelings in a resume. Even if they've been given basic formulas for determining these things, they still lack that natural intuition that allows humans to sense these things on their own, without having to be told. 2️⃣ AIs will only do what you tell them to. Following the "garbage in, garbage out" principle, AIs can only work based on the information they have been given. If you want to write a resume and you provide an AI chatbot with all your skills, accomplishments and experiences, it will only make it based on that information and wouldn't ask (or know to ask) for any other thing that could improve the quality of your resume. 3️⃣ AIs are programmed a certain way and will only work according to that program. Every AI tool is built with a certain program that allows them to respond and function the way they do, but when a particular task requires the AI to function beyond its capabilities, it is sure to disappoint. Humans can adapt and learn new ways of doing things so they can serve better; AIs cannot. Notwithstanding, you can still use AI to touch up or check your resume for errors and corrections, but it's always advisable that you regulate your dependency on it. If you want to make sure your resume is top-notch, able to impress your employer and makes you much more hireable, take it to a professional CV writer to review your work or give it a total revamp whatever the case may be. 𝐈𝐒 𝐈𝐓 𝐎𝐊 𝐓𝐎 𝐌𝐀𝐊𝐄 𝐀 𝐅𝐄𝐖 𝐒𝐏𝐄𝐋𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐌𝐈𝐒𝐓𝐊𝐄𝐒 𝐎𝐍 𝐘𝐎𝐑 𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐔𝐌𝐄? 😉 I've read posts where recruiters say they don't mind a few spelling errors. I disagree. An error-free resume displays professionalism and attention to detail, gives a great first impression, and gives you a competitive advantage over other applicants. 𝐓𝐫𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐬𝐞 𝐬𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐥𝐞 𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐚𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐜𝐤𝐬: ➡️Check for hyphenated words like (detail-oriented or multi-skilled). ➡️Format your dates consistently as mmm-yyyy or nn-yyyy. ➡️Pay close attention to frequently confused words like affect vs. effect or they're vs. their vs. there. ➡️Previous jobs should use past tense and current jobs present tense (Oversaw strategic planning vs. Oversee strategic planning). ➡️Use commas properly if listing more than two items (chairs, tables, and doors). ➡️Proper capitalization of proper names, and job titles. ➡️Use standardized fonts and font sizes for each section. 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐚 𝐟𝐞𝐰 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐨𝐟𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐢𝐩𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐝: ➡️Get a friend to read and critique your resume. ➡️Ask ChatGPT your spelling or grammar questions. Tell them to reference The Chicago Manual of Style for their response. ➡️Read your resume out loud. It's easier to spot what doesn't sound right. ➡️Use Grammarly or an online dictionary (they're free!)
