Exciting findings from research led by Haider Taha, president at our partner organization Altostratus! In 2022, the research began when GAF and Climate Resolve, both partners with the Smart Surfaces Coalition, installed over 700,000 square ft. of reflective pavements in Pacoima, CA. Taha evaluated effects on both the community and pedestrian scales. After 2 years of comprehensive observations, the study reveals significant cooling effects, especially during heatwaves, and continued cooling at night. No negative impacts on glare or pedestrian comfort were shown. Read the full study to learn more about how reflective coatings can transform city climates! 🌞🌎 #UrbanHeat #ClimateAction 🔗: https://lnkd.in/g-wVT8Vb

Prediction: we will see more and more thoughtful easing of the one-size-fits-all 50/70 climate standard (as in %RH/degrees F) as museums try to reduce energy consumption.
"If each individual institution had to undergo this learning process all on their own, it would be really challenging. Doing it as a community sharing all those resources, sharing the knowledge that already existed in the community has so much more impact.” - Joan Weinstein, director of the Getty Foundation Tackling the topic of climate change is no easy feat. We're proud to learn together and be in conversation with fellow LA institutions to take part in the Climate Impact Program. Launched through PST ART, the program helps art spaces reduce their environmental footprint by offering tools for better practices such as energy-efficient climate control in exhibition areas. RIAI unveil Climate Challenge guidance while exploring Retrofit at Scale at the #RIAIConference Incase you missed it, the RIAI launched a complementary suite of guidance for the RIAI 2030 Climate Challenge. These guides are intended to help support Architects and their Clients to sign up and work towards the targets of the Climate Challenge. The Climate Challenge guidance includes an Architect's Guide, a Domestic Client’s Guide and a Non-Domestic Client’s Guide. Each document sets out the reasons and benefits of signing up to the Climate Challenge, how the targets apply to projects and useful guidance, tools and resources to help a practice work towards the targets. This year’s RIAI Conference theme focused on #Collaboration and the transformative role both architects and built environment professionals play in addressing the unprecedent challenges our society is currently facing – not only in terms of climate change, but also affordable housing and liveable cities and towns. Speaking of the conference, Charlotte Sheridan PRIAI, said: “I am delighted to see how educational the second day of our conference was, with the sole focus on Retrofit at Scale. Retrofitting offers a multitude of environmental benefits by conserving resources, reducing waste, improving energy efficiency and preserving both natural and cultural assets. It represents a responsible and sustainable approach to urban development which is of the utmost importance now and in the future. This closely aligns with our 2023 Climate Challenge and is something that everyone in our industry should be exploring.” For full details on the guides, visit https://lnkd.in/eUwwsrXV #architects #collaboration #retrofit #RIAIClimateChallenge

🌞🏢 Exciting Insights from the R T Fair Seminar on Climate Resilience through Smart Solar Shading! 🌍🔆 Yesterday at the R T fair in Stuttgart, I had the opportunity to attend a very interesting seminar hosted by European Solar Shading Organisation ES-SO (ES-SO), on "Climate Resilience through Smart Solar Shading". The seminar was devoted mainly to the latest advancements in solar shading solutions with a keen focus on enhancing wind resistance and automation. In many European countries, the integration of external shading has become imperative for crafting climate-resilient office buildings. Consequently, there's a growing demand for robust guidelines pertaining to the performance of solar shading solutions, particularly concerning wind resistance. Recognizing this need, the ES-SO Technical Committee has diligently developed control strategies to accurately simulate the performance of manual, motorized, and automated solar shading devices across Europe. A pivotal discussion during the seminar revolved around addressing a common query: how to effectively manage wind resistance in buildings equipped with sun protection solutions. To tackle this challenge head-on, comprehensive wind tunnel tests have been conducted on the primary categories of external shading, laying the foundation for establishing essential guidelines. 🔗 #SolarShading #ClimateResilience #Design #SustainableArchitecture # #sunprotection #aluprof #PROP #savings
