If you're passionate about keeping a pulse on things that seek to advance the healthcare industry, tune in to the podcast TRADEOFFS! This week's episode delves into CMS's new pilot program, GUIDE (Guiding an Improved Dementia Experience), which starts 7/1. The 8-year initiative aims to support caregivers of individuals with dementia, and anticipates it will: 1) Reduce caregiver stress 2) Enhancing the patients quality of life 3) Avoid the use of nursing facilities. This is more than a 1-800 support number. It's a game-changer beyond traditional support services. My key insight? We must recognize and empower caregivers for their unique, invaluable role. Their personalized, impactful care is unparalleled. It's crucial to rally behind caregivers. Some companies like Careforth are already seizing this opportunity for Medicaid patients, with more likely to follow suit as CMS backs this model. Remember, where CMS leads, the nation follows. #healthcare #caregivers #CMS #podcast #TRADEOFFS

The Uncharted Terrain of Caregiving & CMS's New Steps🏥 When my 92-year-old grandfather took an unexpected fall, my sister, despite her healthcare training, found herself unprepared for the ensuing 3-month caregiving journey. This experience isn't uncommon—many step into the caregiver role suddenly, often without any preparation. Here's a concerning stat: While 42 million Americans shouldered unpaid caregiving in 2020, a mere 7% received relevant training. The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (#CMS) has a fresh proposal on the table: Fund training for caregivers on medication management, daily care tasks, and medical equipment use. While this is a promising start, our rapidly aging population needs broader support. Top on the list: 1️⃣ Mental health resources 2️⃣ Financial assistance 3️⃣ Cutting-edge tech solutions like #RPM, emergency response tools, smart home sensors, and more. As our demographics and culture shift, caregiving becomes central to our identity. Kudos to CMS for recognizing and acting on this. Let's ensure we shape a comprehensive, holistic approach. 🔗 Learn More https://lnkd.in/eshNTd2i Judith Graham #Healthcare #Caregiving #MedicareReforms 👨⚕️👩👩👦🏡

Informing Change in Healthcare with Insights from Lived Experiences When Terrence Ho took the stage at The Ontario Caregiver Organization's Roundtable last week, he directly addressed the essence of healthcare – the human element. Through sharing his journey of extreme caregiving, Terrence's keynote resonated deeply, leaving a lasting impression on the audience and shaping the day's conversations. 🔹 His insights prompted every panelist, moderator, and presenter to reference his words, integrating the essence of his message into the day's dialogues. An emphasis on personal narratives, alongside research, facts, data, trend analysis and process or program reviews, can enhance empathy and understanding within healthcare conversations. It paves the way for a more inclusive and patient-centered system. The call for genuine engagement and co-design with patients and caregivers is clear—it has to be more than tokenism. 🌟 One place to start is to include a lived experience presentation at the beginning of the meeting, event or gathering. In doing so, remember that caregivers need to be supported in sharing their stories: o appropriate compensation, o respecting their point of view and experience, and supporting them to share it authentically, o offering a single person as a point of contact, and o allowing lots of preparation time and support at the event, meeting or gathering. 🔸 Terrence's closing call to action, "We’re all in this together. Let’s solve this together," underscores the necessity of engaging people with lived experiences in shaping change and the future of healthcare. The reflection from one of the participants, "It was a phenomenal way to remind everyone why we do, what we do in caring for clients, patients, families, and caregivers," encapsulates the importance and impact of integrating insights from people with lived experience in all healthcare discussions. Embracing Change: Meeting the Rising Demand for Care🤔🤔 In today's evolving healthcare landscape, the need for care is growing at an unprecedented rate.
