Oh dear people of advertising and marketing. Once again we prove how our arrogance (and ignorance) stop us from progress. But this time it might be fatal. Some numbers from this article: - marketing and sales leaders admitted to a surprising lack of familiarity with generative AI. Only 21% of them professed substantial knowledge. (HR - 44%, purchasing - 57%, product - 60%) - 63% of people in marketing are curious but skeptical about AI - 78% of marketing and sales leaders did acknowledge that generative AI is likely to have “some” impact on their company Let me do a little analogy from the past on those numbers: - 78% of farmers admit that tractors might have SOME impact on their work - 63% of farmers are curious but skeptical about tractors and 27% of them don't even give a sh*t about it (they are like "Nah, I'm cool with my horse"). - Only 21% of farmers are familiar with tractors I know these analogies are inaccurate and very clumsy, but they highlight the size of ignorance in our industry. One of the things I love about Toast and working with our customers is that we're always starting from a deep grounding in customer use cases and feedback and use the tools, and in this case a generationl technical transformation, to accelerate how we create an outsized customer value. I recently shared the work we're doing to build an AI assistant that's tailor made for restaurants.
