Did you know that millions of Americans have #medical debt in collections on their credit reports? A new Urban Institute #data tool provides insights into this reality by exploring the variation of medical debt in collections at the county, state, and national level. Urban’s tool also shows changes in medical debt for residents in communities of color and white communities and examines potential factors associated with debt, such as #healthinsurance coverage and hospital market concentration. Explore the tool today. https://urbn.is/4eU3OO3

Industrialized nations now accept that developing countries need debt forgiveness to successfully develop. These debt relief programs don't go far enough but they're a step in the right direction. We need similar programs here in the US for medical, educational, and other debt. The Biden administration's granting of student debt relief is again a step in the right direction but not enough. We aslo need to recognize that if so many people have so much debt, that our economic, healthcare, and educational systems are fundamentally broken. We need to fundamentally rethink how we provide for people's well-being but so everyone can not just get by but flourish.
