Sector leaders: "alarming" Sport England figures confirm that more focus is needed on early intervention to increase physical activity. The National Sector Partners Group (#NSPG) is calling on more to be done to ensure #children and young people are given the opportunities to get active early in their lives. “We need to reimagine how we approach activity at all levels, and put activity at the heart of schools, our communities, and government priorities, otherwise we will fall short of those targets and will be putting the next generation at risk," the group says. The NSPG was reacting to the latest Active Lives report, which showed that less than half (47%) of children are meeting the Chief Medical Officers’ guidelines of taking part in an average of 60 minutes or more of #sport and #physicalactivity a day. National Physical Fitness and Sports Month By Dale Fisher, GFWC Health and Wellness Chairman May - What a great time to find an activity you enjoy and get moving! Since 1983 each United States President has proclaimed May as National Physical Fitness and Sports Month to bring awareness and celebrate the benefits of physical activity and sports participation. We know that physical activity benefits our heart, body, and mind. It contributes to preventing cardiovascular disease, some cancers, and diabetes. Physical activity is beneficial in the lives of individuals with Parkinson’s Disease and Alzheimer’s Disease. For older adults it lowers the risk of falls, it reduces the risk of postpartum depression for pregnant women, and for all groups, it helps people maintain a healthy weight. Physical activity reduces symptoms of anxiety and depression and enhances thinking, learning, and judgment skills. It is instrumental in our overall mental well-being. In fact, the National Alliance on Mental Illness has adopted “Movement: moving more for our mental health” as their theme for the May 2024 Mental Health Awareness Month Campaign. Overcome the physical activity barriers: social support, fear of injury, weather conditions, cost or lack of facilities, and lack of time, energy, skills, and motivation. Do, as many of our clubs are doing, and address how these barriers affect our members, schools, and communities. Organize walking clubs, purchase playground equipment, build community walking trails, sponsor youth sports teams, and play cornhole and pickleball with seniors. Work with a local preschool to ensure that those children are receiving three hours of active play throughout the day to enhance social skills, growth, and development. Develop a PR Campaign to educate our youth ages six to seventeen that at least sixty minutes of activity is recommended to include moderate to vigorous aerobics and activities that strengthen muscles and bones like climbing on playground equipment, playing basketball, and jumping rope. Lastly, encourage adults to engage in 150 to 300 minutes of aerobic activity each week and also incorporate muscle-strengthening by lifting weights or doing planks. #GFWC_HQ #GFWC #PhysicalFitnessMonth #IamGFWC #LivingTheVolunteerSpirit #healthylifestyle #health #wellness #wellbeing

Loved chatting with Paul Sullivan about Australia's greatest dad export (Bandit Heeler, obvs), times I've gotten it wrong as a dad (with a good dose of crying in public), and how great it feels to actually know your neighbours (thanks, dad team). Check out the podcast and the Paul's awesome work at The Company of Dads ⬇ #dadchat #dadfit #companyofdadspodcast
In order for more #genderequality in families, there needs to be more support for dads. This week our guest is Ryan Carters, founder of DadFit in Australia. He’s a coach, a trainer, and a speaker. He’s a dad. Earlier in his career, he was a professional cricket player in Australia. He went to Harvard. He worked for McKinsey & Company an international #consulting firm. And now he’s on a mission through Dad Fit “to make dadding a team sport again.” To make it so that dads don’t feel they’re on their own. To give them what so many moms have. “Dadfit,” the website says, “partners with communities, workplaces, and sporting organisations to support, celebrate and bring out the best in dads.” I came across Ryan after reading a piece he wrote in the Sydney Morning Herald entitled, Mums are helped to find a village. Why are dads left to struggle without one? He’s a father of three – 10, 4 and 2. The legendary coach Chuck Noll once posed a pointed question that sparked a revolution in athlete safety... "If you want me to keep an athlete out of football, I want objective data that you can show me indicating that there is something wrong with his cognitive abilities." This simple yet profound inquiry in 1990 led to the development of a crucial test, now used by nearly all professional sports teams and over 2,400 high schools and colleges, to assess the safety of athletes returning to play after a concussion. 🏈 Today, we reflect on the impact of Chuck Noll's unwavering commitment to player welfare, a legacy that continues to shape sports safety protocols. Let's honor his foresight and dedication by prioritizing the health and well-being of athletes in every game. 🙌 #SportsSafety #ChuckNoll #Legacy #AthleteHealth #ConcussionAwareness

Summer is the perfect time to get the kids' sports physicals done before fall! Sports physicals are always included here at HIWFC, and here are some reasons why it is crucial to have a physical assessment completed: - Prevention and Screening: Sports physicals provide an opportunity to screen for potential health issues that could affect a child's ability to participate in sports safely. - Detection of Medical Conditions: Physical exams conducted during sports physicals can help detect underlying medical conditions. - Injury Prevention: Sports physicals often include assessments of strength, flexibility, and overall physical fitness, which can help identify areas where a child may be at risk for injury. - Compliance with Regulations: Many schools, sports leagues, and organizations require athletes to undergo sports physicals before participating in organized sports activities. Any questions? Drop them below! Email us directly at [email protected] or call at 317-669-0820 to get scheduled! #healthiswealth #familypractice #familymedicine #sportsphysicals #kidssports #physical #sportsassessment #fallsports #summer #kidshealth #menshealth #womenshealth #rootcause #injuryprevention #sportphysical #liveyourbestlife

The 2024 Career & Salary Survey from Marketing Week shows that marketers are increasingly shouldering more responsibility and being expected to deliver more with less. This got me thinking... In a netball team, everyone has a skill that they bring to a particular position, which is not unlike a marketing team. If someone in my netball team sits out the league due to injury, pregnancy or other responsibilities, we find a replacement player for their position (skill) in the team. We don't share GK between GD and WD and we don't push WA into GS. We get help. Yet the same doesn't appear to happen (and hasn't happened in my own experience) in marketing. We often do share the workload of an absent teammate amongst the rest, regardless of their capacity or skill to do the job. So, what's the solution...boardroom representation, organisational culture, something else? 🤔 --------------------------------- Need an extra pair of hands in your marketing team? Maybe I can help 👋 #marketingstrategy #marketingconsultancy #marketing
