How much of the problems with the Great Salt Lake are the result of Utah’s medieval water policies? At one point will it be necessary to overhaul a water share system that’s been in place for over 100 years. As the Wasatch Front and Southwestern Utah continue to be more urban than rural, a water policy based upon outdated methods of agriculture (canals, turnouts and flood irrigation) needs to be replaced with metropolitan water districts that provide source, storage and treatment on a regional scale.

Met with farmer-owned cooperative leaders last week at the 95th National Council of Farmer Cooperatives Annual Meeting and shared how increasingly destructive severe weather events are impacting the insurance industry, agribusiness and consumers.
