Most of our solid cardboard packaging comprises recycled paper and cardboard. The raw materials that we purchase are FSC certified, but what does FSC certified actually mean? Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) is an international hallmark for paper, supported by governments, businesses and environmental organisations. It sets high demands for sustainable and sociable forestry, but sets no requirements for paper production. FSC 100% indicates that the fibres originate from responsibly managed forests. Endangered forests and trees with a high environmental value may not be used for timber production. Felling trees may not lead to a forest disappearing or a loss of biodiversity or damage the natural ability for the forest to regrow. This means that after felling trees, the forest must be given the opportunity to recover. In other words, no more timber can be cut that can regrow. Smart Packaging Solutions does everything in its power to manufacture our sustainable packaging in the most environmentally friendly way, and so with minimum CO2 emissions. This is how we limit the environmental impact with our activities and products. Are you on the lookout for sustainable, environmentally friendly packaging? We’re FSC certified! But what exactly does that mean? The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) logo serves as an assurance that the paper, card, and wood-based products we use in our packaging come from well-managed forests. These forests undergo independent certification in accordance with the rigorous rules of the FSC, ensuring responsible forestry practices are followed every step of the way. We take great pride in providing our clients with packaging that is not only visually appealing and functional but also environmentally responsible. Our dedication to sustainability goes beyond just sourcing materials - we go the extra mile to ensure that only recycled fibres or fibres of known and safe origin are used in all our packaging solutions, making them 100% recyclable. Additionally, each tree used in our packaging comes from expertly managed forests, and for every tree felled, three to four new trees are planted. This proactive approach allows us to minimise our environmental impact and work towards a greener future. For a long time now, we've been exploring ways to remove plastic from our woodland creation projects. As its #WorldEarthDay today, we wanted to show one of the latest innovations we've been trying out - #VigilisBio plastic free tree shelters from Vigilis Tree Shelters 🌳🌲🌳 These shelters have very similar properties to plastic tree shelters but are made from a unique blend of potatoes, wood, corn, and a custom biodegradable polymer. Unlike plastic shelters, they will break down after 5 - 10 years into flakes which then become a food source for soil micro-organisms. All that remains after this whole process is biomass, water, and minerals. No need to return and collect, no microplastics, and no toxic residues. To protect new saplings from damage, we can't stop using tree guards altogether but depending on the client and budget, we're excited that tree planting without the plastic is now possible 🌳 https://lnkd.in/eTZ2x5Mu #plasticpollution #plasticfree #woodlandcreation #treeplanting Edward Nicholson TechArborA

Wood Packaging and Lumber Industry Leads the Way in Green Practices 🌍 As global awareness of environmental issues continues to grow, industries across the board are seeking sustainable solutions to minimize their ecological footprint. In the wood packaging and lumber industry, sustainability isn't just a buzzword—it's a core value that drives innovation and progress. 🌲Responsible Forestry Practices: One of the key pillars of sustainability in the wood packaging and lumber industry is the promotion of responsible forestry practices. From planting and harvesting to processing and distribution, industry leaders are committed to ensuring that wood is sourced from well-managed forests across North America. 🔄 Circular Economy Initiatives: In addition to sustainable forestry practices, the wood packaging and lumber industry embraces the principles of circular economy. By promoting the reuse, recycling, and repurposing of wood pallets, for example, companies are reducing waste and extending the lifespan of valuable resources, thereby minimizing their environmental impact. ♻️ Recyclable and Biodegradable Packaging: Wood packaging, such as pallets and crates, offers a natural alternative to plastic and metal packaging materials. Not only are wood products recyclable and biodegradable, but they also have a lower carbon footprint compared to alternative materials, making them an eco-friendly choice for businesses looking to reduce their environmental impact. 🌳 Carbon Sequestration and Storage: Trees are natural carbon sinks, absorbing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and storing it in their wood fibers. By utilizing wood products in construction and packaging, the wood packaging and lumber industry plays a vital role in carbon sequestration and storage, helping to mitigate the effects of climate change. At Wisconsin Lumber & Pallet, we're proud to be part of an industry that prioritizes sustainability and green practices. We are committed to designing waste out of packaging and supplying recyclable and biodegradable packaging solutions. We're also dedicated to making a positive impact on the planet by donating a percentage of every sale to global forest conservation efforts. Join us in celebrating the wood packaging and lumber industry's commitment to sustainability! Together, we can build a greener, more sustainable future for generations to come. #Sustainability #GreenPractices #WoodPackaging #LumberIndustry #CircularEconomy #ClimateAction #Environment #GreenBusiness

FSC-certified: you see it everywhere, but what does it really mean? On packaging, furniture, notebooks, and yes, on many of our bamboo products at Bamboovement.. But what's behind this label? Is it another one of those labels that you just buy, or does it represent something more? There are so many ‘green’ labels out there, and some can be quite misleading. What about FSC? Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) was born in 1993. After the Earth Summit in Rio didn’t manage to put a break on deforestation. So a group of forward-thinking environmentalists, businesses, and community leaders came together to pioneer a new approach to reshape global forestry. Today, they manage over 200 million hectares of forest, all following FSC's high standards. But what do they stand for? Well the forests that have their trademark, have to follow these rules: 1. 𝐒𝐮𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠: trees are responsibly harvested and allowed to regenerate. Old-growth forests are off-limits. 2. 𝐁𝐢𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐭𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: certain forest areas remain untouched, safeguarding native flora and fauna. 3. 𝐈𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬: respects the rights and sacred sites of indigenous communities. 4. 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐨𝐥𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭: employs local workers, offering fair wages, training, and safety equipment. 5. 𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: protects local water bodies and maintains the different ecosystems. 6. 𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐥𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐥 𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬: actively contributes to the wellbeing of local communities. 7. 𝐄𝐧𝐯𝐢𝐫𝐨𝐧𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐚𝐠𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭: ensures water quality and limits chemical use. 8. 𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐦𝐢𝐜 𝐯𝐢𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲: balances profitability with ecological and social responsibilities. In essence, an FSC certified forest symbolizes a balance of environmental care, social responsibility, and being economically feasible. Next time you see 'FSC-certified', remember it's not just a label, it's a statement to products that support healthy forests and communities. So maybe it's time for all retailers to set FSC as a standard through their whole supply chain? #FSC #Sustainableforestry #Bamboovement #EcoFriendly #retail #hospitality #bamboo

This week is special for all people who have the environment in their heart. Today we’re celebrating #InternationalDayofForests and tomorrow the #WorldWaterDay. These two days remind us of the importance of preserving precious resources, such as water and wood, as part of our drive to maintain a healthy planet. In this context, did you know that choosing single-use paper packaging is a good way to minimise freshwater consumption and support sustainable forestry practices? Single-use paper packaging outperforms reusable solutions in terms of water consumption because it does not rely on repeated washing cycles. Additionally, the European paper industry has significantly lowered its water footprint in recent years with 93% of the water used to manufacture paper-based packaging returned to the environment in good condition. Single-use paper packaging is also an environmentally performant option in terms of wood extraction. In Europe, paper packaging is produced from renewable wood fibre originating from sustainably managed forests. Thanks to such management, 3 to 5 new trees are planted for each tree used. These strong results confirm that single-use paper packaging is - and should remain - at the centre of the green transition. For more insights visit our website: https://eppa-eu.org

Today is the International Day of Forests, celebrating and raising awareness of the importance of all types of forest. At Dams, we recognise the importance of all forests, and take great care to ensure all the wood we use in manufacturing is sourced sustainably. Here are the facts: 🌳 We are fully FSC and FISP certified – and only purchase raw material from FSC-certified suppliers 🌳 The wood we use, such as spruce and pine logs, are felled from sustainable forestry – and any by-products are directly processed further in the production of chipboard, ensuring nothing is wasted 🌳 Up to 30% of all chipboard purchased by Dams comes from waste wood, recovered and reprocessed from places across the whole of the UK You can find out more about our Environmental procedures and policies in our ESG document at the following link: https://lnkd.in/eJfRmTkT #UKManufacturing #DamsFurniture #workplacesolutions #officefurniture #InternationalDayOfForests #sustainability
