Community Matters: Convening Leadership In today's complex society, communities face numerous wicked problems requiring collaborative action. A wicked problem is a social or cultural problem that is difficult or impossible to solve because of its complex and interconnected nature. Examples like childhood illiteracy underscored the complexity and interconnectedness of agencies, organizations, and community organizers who work together to address such problems. However, managing a community's social issues requires collaborative action ...... https://lnkd.in/gqdQFTaA #BestPractices #CommunityMatters #conveningleadership #NonprofitManagement

At Leadership Howard County, in our quest to nurture effective community leadership, we recognize the significance of trust at scale. As highlighted in this thought-provoking article, metrics alone cannot cultivate trust. Instead, fostering a deeper understanding of community dynamics and complex systems through active participation at the local level is key. We aim to empower participants to engage meaningfully with their communities, fostering a sense of efficacy and trust that transcends numbers. A lot to chew on in this article: "There's something about local community engagement that really matters for the health of a democracy, and something is really getting lost there. This leads me to the question that I'm trying to figure out now: “When we institutionalize all these abstract and quantified forms of knowing and engaging in civil society, does that cause our civic or democratic muscles to atrophy?” The follow up question is: “How? And how do we get back from that?”" Can we reshape the landscape of leadership by prioritizing local involvement and empowering individuals to influence their communities positively? I surely hope so: "Prioritizing more hands-on, engaged forms of participation and accountability are essential for a vibrant civic life" #LeadershipDevelopment #TrustBuilding #CommunityEngagement #LocalInvolvement #LeadershipHowardCounty https://lnkd.in/e2rhixum

Client Highlight: Assumption-St. Bridget School - Seattle, WA Equity looks different for every organization we work with. Some groups need more, some want more, and some are ready to take on the challenge. Assumption-St. Bridget School is one of those organizations with leaders and team members eager to understand their place in the equity conversation and willing to make it happen. It's not about one-off training with this client. We are beginning our second year working monthly with the entire faculty and staff to build equity teams, create community, write a land acknowledgment, and continue to dig into the skills of self-reflection, self-awareness & self-regulation - because that is the heart of all equity work lives. #HeartWork #EDI #equitydiversityinclusion #HealingtheColonizedMind #TheEvolutionOfAloha #DismantlingWhiteness

I’ve been amazed to see what can happen when businesses prioritize their responsibility to their communities. At the end of the day, there’s potential to uplift the surrounding community, the business, and the people in both. Research shows that 70% of employees feel more engaged when their company is involved in community initiatives. By approaching local communities with an open mind and a willingness to learn, businesses can build trust and foster meaningful relationships. To me, there's nothing more important than earning and maintaining the trust of teams and communities. What better way to do that than by acting with curiosity and sensemaking when engaging in community development? What’s your take? #Community #Innovation #Engagement #Leadership Source: MIT Sloan - How to engage your business in community and economic development.

Leadership Coach & Facilitator | Diversity, Equity & Inclusion & Belonging Consultant | Trainer | Human Behaviour Specialist 🧑🏻🦰 Helping company cultures be more inclusive and successful 📈
👩🏽🏫 "What do you do?". The dreaded question at dinner parties. Especially when your role is so ill-defined in the textbook. Especially when your POC community doesn't comprehend anything outside of 'doctor', 'lawyer', or 'accountant'. 👩🏽🏫 🌊 When I say my niche found me I'm not lying. I swam the rapids of Human Resources for decades, even when on the inside, we were called "𝘏𝘶𝘮𝘢𝘯 𝘙𝘦𝘮𝘢𝘪𝘯𝘴". Like Ouch 🤕. I then thought I had an awakening. I saw the light. And entered the very crowded world of coaching. Blessed be! I was now creating transformational change! 🌊 ⚖️ And then came DEIB. Diversity. Equity. Inclusion. Belonging. It didn't knock on my door. It literally broke it down. POW WOW, and then some more. Until, I had no choice but to remodel my house of work, and let it take occupancy. ⚖️ 🙏🏾 The truth is, in every job we have our good days and bad days. We make an impact, sometimes seen and celebrated, other times quietly driving change behind the scenes. My focus lies in fostering diverse and inclusive environments where everyone feels valued and empowered. And just like a prayer, I hope finding your purpose takes you there too. 🙏🏾 🏫 To all the DEI champions and allies - I co-tenant with you in the building of change-making. There are many battles to be fought, rights to be won, and actions to rejoice about. Let's build this village! 🏫 #diversityequityinclusion #belonging #changemakers #allyship #transformationalleadership #findyourpurpose
