HSEQ Professional | ISO Auditor | Championing Psychosocial Health in the Workplace | Creating Safer Work Environment for Well-being
Complete agree Sean! From a WHS persective, identifying why a team member is underperforming helps to manage the psychosocial hazards at work for both the manager and team member. If we take a step back, when recruiting or promoting someone to a leadership position, organisations should ensure the person have leadership skills. Leadership skills(soft skills like empathy, resilience, effective comms, emotional intelligence etc) should not be confused with work management skills as they are complementary aspects of effective management but distinct skills. Organisation should identify this as a skill gap during the recruitment of managers/leaders. With the growing emphasis and concerns of psychosocial hazards at work, i think HR and WHS should be more integrated that ever.

It is important to celebrate wins. There are many low points in a day, week, month as a start up founder. Today we had a great day. The team was buzzing. We feel we are getting closer to Product Market Fit. Every day. We can all feel it and see it. Customers are responding positively to our vision and tech. We celebrate in small ways, together. A smoothie. A meal. A walk. A game of tennis. A break at the beach. Whatever it is. This is so important to do. We enjoy what we do. As a team. That way we also stick together through the low times. And there are many. How do you celebrate your (little) wins?
