2024 HiFunMat Summer School: Materials for the environment and the society   🌱 Preservation of the environment is crucial, as it is becoming increasingly clear that it determines the future of our societies and survival on Earth. The 2024 summer school will offer an overview of developments in research on this theme. From analysis systems for measuring water and air pollution to ecological restoration, hydrogeological studies, chemical, physicochemical, photochemical and biological methods of depollution, recycling and recovery of pollutants, materials are omnipresent, at different scales. 🎯 The program, spread over 3 and a half days, has been designed to reflect the diversity of techniques developed by scientists to analyse, preserve and repair the environment and eco-systems, and to understand the degree of mastery, progress and scope of these different techniques. It includes an introductory day aimed at anchoring these technical developments in a broader societal reflection on sustainable development. The first chapter of my ERASMUS MUNDUS Joint Master -IMBRSea has come to an end!! It was a challenging chapter as the coursework was too extensive in almost all the subjects, yet the knowledge and skills gained are far more rewarding!! I made new friends, and some are now my best buddies for life! Gent was the backdrop for many first-time experiences, and I'm looking forward to the next chapter in Oviedo, Spain where I will gain knowledge of; - Mass balance models to dynamical models: Toy-models and real-models of marine ecosystems: Ecopath, Ecosym and Ecospace. - Unstructured population models. Continuous and discrete-time population models. Age and class-structured population models. Stochastic models. - Density-dependence, periodicity and stochasticity in structured models. Metapopulations. Population Viability Analysis and Conservation Paradigms. Ecosystem modelling is the main reason why I applied to this master's and I'm excited to gain a deeper understanding of this field!! (p.s. - not all IMBRSea Gent students are in the picture though)
