We believe in the power of connecting outdoors. The 15 counties surrounding the Triangle region of North Carolina are home to a network of beautiful greenways. These trails not only connect the communities of these 15 counties, they also create a welcome area for visitors and residents to connect with each other and the outdoors. What is the Triangle Trails Initiative? The Triangle Trails Initiative (also known as Triangle Trails) is a collaboration between government, business, anchor institutions and civic leaders to make the Research Triangle Region a national leader in greenways and trails. This regional organization works on behalf of the collective interests of member counties, their municipal governments, businesses, non-profits and citizens to promote the regional greenway system. Fifteen counties have adopted Resolutions of Support for the Initiative. The Initiative will continue to expand this public-private partnership over time. https://lnkd.in/g835UMhi

“We consider it our responsibility to learn more about your organization and the possible alignment of our interests.” This from the funding application process from the ROBERT STERLING CLARK FOUNDATION, INC. Kudos to them for doing the power analysis and realizing they have all of the power while potential grantees have the knowledge, so understanding it is on them to spend more time and energy doing homework than those potential grantees. Courageous Funding Practices named by Crappy Funding Practices (For all of those upset with CFP for calling funders out instead of kindly and gently offering solutions, here’s one explicitly for you. Also, the other call outs also include solutions. Stop doing the crappy thing!)
Swoon! As much of the country suffers through a heat wave, we are woozy with excitement about the ROBERT STERLING CLARK FOUNDATION, INC. 🏆 Do they have character limits? Do they have hidden questions? Do they require too much work for too small a grant? Do they even have an application? They do not. 😮 The fine folks at the Foundation ask only that you submit *any* application you’ve already written, along with existing financial documents. In their words: “Our approach reflects our desire for your organization to keep the focus on your work…. We consider it our responsibility to learn more about your organization and the possible alignment of our interests. This approach is rooted in a philosophy of trust-based philanthropy.” 🥰 🎤 Funders, take note. Over here at CFP, we see this as a great example of valuing your grantees’ time, resources, and sanity! 👍👍 If you’d like to submit your own shout-out for an Awesome Funding Practice, we love to share them!

Fundraising strategy development, business planning, workshop facilitation, bid writing & fundraising training for charities & social enterprises
Surprisingly enough, the best & most impactful organisations aren't necessarily the ones that can demonstrate the patience and linguistic ability required to spend hours rewriting a perfectly good project proposal for a slightly different word count and set of questions. And asking charities to do this isn't a sign of diligent and effective grantmaking - it shows an unhealthy ego and lack of consideration for the sector. I'd absolutely love to see more funders allowing charities to reuse previous applications. Is anyone aware of any UK funders doing this? How can we persuade them? Thanks Crappy Funding Practices for showcasing...well, a very good funder practice 👏🏼

A really interesting read regarding what influences alumni behaviour regarding donations. I'm surprised by the percentage of alumni who donate - I would have put it lower. Two factors might account for this. My experience has been overwhelmingly in post-92 and newer institutions - perhaps donations by type of institution varies. Secondly, it's natural for respondents to exaggerate in these types of surveys. We can't determine if this has been taken into account. What do you think? Have you ever donated as an alumni? #highereducation #alumni #philanthropy
