I challenge any of my connections to build a business in a day! Defining a problem, ideating a solution, refining the solution, and building a go-to-market strategy, only then to pitch it to strangers … because thats what 150 students 14-15 y/o managed to brilliant success in our most recent volunteering day A couple of my favourites include: Reusable gum (cleaning teeth and the streets) Unbranded and discrete biodegradable period products A community based app around climate change and sustainability. To connect individuals, providing educational content and advice, and inbuilt ai to determine waste recyclability You may sense a theme ♻️🌍 If you are at PA message me to get involved in the next one ☝️ PA Consulting #innovation #enterpriseday #sustainability

Founder at Outset Financial | LinkedIn Top Voice in Finance | Lifelong Entrepreneur - Innovating Emotional Health through Financial Wellness
I interviewed Sherrilyn Ifill, whom I had the pleasure of meeting yesterday at Aspen Ideas. (I am in heaven! Talking with people from a wide range of fields about the future of financial health.) Change is possible, but the shift from living reactively to proactively is hard, but it is worth the fight. If I did it anyone can and could companies can as well! No one reflects this idea more than Sherrilyn Ifill. Ifill is president and director-counsel emeritus of the #NAACP Legal Defense Fund, where she served as president from 2013 to 2022. Her resume would take up this entire post, but this says it all - "Ifill was named one of Time’s 100 Most Influential People in the World in 2021". We spoke after her talk with Jeffery Rosen, the president and CEO of the National Constitution Center. I grew up in DC and became an American history buff. I forgot that the America we know and live in was not established until after the Civil War with additions of the 13, 14, and 15th Amendments. "We, the people, were not truly “We the People” until the Reconstruction amendments altered our Constitution in a post-Civil War "second founding." Key shifts: Birth Right Protection Counting each Person Equal protection under the law Corporate personhood Corporate personhood means, "Allowing corporations to conduct business activities as " legal persons” to encourage investment and help drive economic growth. I do not see corporate America foefilling their duty to care for society. They serve shareholders. How can corporations actions be congruent with personhood? Perhaps they should think like Mr. Rogers - "be a good neighbor" and consider: 1. Building Affordable and middle-class housing near their headquarters? If you want to pick a city, Dartmouth just invested in building 10,000 housing units in Hanover to uplift the community in which they reside. 2. Invest in local businesses that may be outside their core purpose that uplift their local community. 3. Pay a salary that affords people to live well, save for the future, and raise their children. 4. Pay off Student debt of their employees What are your thoughts? I would love to hear from you. #fiance #economy #politics #housingcrisis #housing #studentdebt #Dartmouth #constitution #politics #financialwellness

OPENING DAY OF THE GWB. 92 years ago today, on October 24, 1931, the George Washington Bridge opened, linking Manhattan’s Washington Heights to New Jersey’s Fort Lee. 5,000 people in the stands and thousands more gathered around the New York and New Jersey sides, New York Governor Franklin D Roosevelt said, “Get on your mark! Get set! Go!” before snipping the ribbon and opening the bridge to traffic as airplanes roared overhead, boat whistles tooted, and a band played “The Star-Spangled Banner.” The three New Jersey routes converging at the Fort Lee plaza of the new Hudson River bridge is described as the widest roadway in the world. The thoroughfare at its greatest limit is 350 feet across, sufficient for 35 lanes of vehicles, each 10 feet. With due ceremony, it was opened officially by Major General Hugh L. Scott, chairman of the New Jersey State Highway Commission. In 1962, the lower level of the bridge, colloquially known as “the Martha,” opened to traffic. The additional six lanes made the bridge the only 14-lane vehicular crossing in the world. Some bridges are physical, while others are metaphorical. A physical bridge is constructed for the purpose of providing passage over an obstacle, which is usually something that is otherwise difficult or impossible to cross. Today, we have more metaphoric walls instead of metaphoric bridges. We are all just about fed up with the deep political schism our nation is suffering. Irrational rants on social media or walking on eggshells around the office to avoid any controversial issues flaring. Celebrating differences of all kinds should be more highly valued, but we are only making slow progress. So, what are we to do? Retreat to our ideological ghettos where everyone is like us and hope we never have to engage with people who are fundamentally different. The pathway of our lives is to continually cross bridges. The bridge to new horizons, new understandings, building relationships, and understanding other people’s opinions. This can only be done by going over a bridge and not through a wall. #nyc #history #shankerlaw

https://lnkd.in/giuJ4EVt Michigan will get it Right: The Critical Conversations are Happening! As we head into a week of policy discussions, speeches, and panel sessions at the Detroit Regional Chamber's Mackinac Policy Conference, the key topic: How do we attract more businesses and jobs to Michigan? Everyone has an idea and a point of view. And virtually everyone transversing the porch at the Grand Hotel is looking for the same thing: Sorting out a series of discussions that ultimately lead our economic development efforts forward. There is real reason to be optimistic. 💥Gretchen Whitmer and Garlin Gilchrist II have been crisscrossing the state laying the groundwork for the "Make It in Michigan Fund." 💥Quentin Messer, Jr. CEcD, the CEO of the Michigan Economic Development Corporation, and chief Growth Officer, Hilary Doe said it best at last week's Pancakes and Politics forum hosted by Hiram E. Jackson at the Michigan Chronicle: "Giving people a reason to stay is attracting more people to return or venture here, giving us the first bump in population since 1957. 💥It starts here: The City of Detroit is lit. And our future is electric. From turning the streetlights back on to building one of the largest energy management facilities in the country, Our Next Energy, dozens of efforts are showcasing the cumulative effect of the last decade. 💥Led by Dan Gilbert's dogged and determined downtown development, buildings and the core of downtown are back more beautiful than ever. 💥In the weeks ahead, we will see General Motors solidifying its presence downtown at the new Hudson Tower. 💥Ford Motor Company will be launching the rebirth of Michigan Central . Its neighbor Newlab has attracted 90 mobility start ups to its facility already since its opening last March. Black Tech Saturdays is unleashing a level of energy (and critical capital!) for black tech entreprenuers we've not seen before. Now the real work begins. Every conversation this week matters. Michigan's future, for generations to follow, starts here.
Michigan wants more projects and jobs. Can it devise a better strategy to get them?

Reimagine America Schools and CityAge, in association with the Siegel Family Endowment, brought both national and local Atlanta leaders together on Dec. 8, to discover how American neighborhoods can become more complete through a focus on equity, community, education, and work. Nearly 300 people attended the digital event to hear from Atlanta school superintendents, local foundations, and other experts. Neighborhoods where digital tools, quality housing, and other basic needs are easily accessible, and where social, physical, and digital infrastructure are integrated, are the ones that set students up for success, according to these experts.
