GBV Technical Specialist @ NACOSA | MPH, Post Violence Care Services, Transformational Healer, Chief Medical Officer and Founding CEO for Open House Initiative and Open House Femina Health.
Greetings LinkedIn family! I must admit, I've been a little off the social grid lately, but for a great cause. I've been tirelessly working behind the scenes, partnering with those at the forefront of healthcare—doctors, nurses, social workers, community health workers, health promotion ambassadors and GBV brigades and ambassadors and an array of healthcare providers—helping to transform the way we approach our invaluable work as healthcare providers. I must say I am on an awe-inspiring journey, transforming the world of healthcare, one provider at a time. I have been working with my colleagues to challenge the norms and break down barriers, focusing on fostering a more human approach in healthcare. This has revolved around the crucial concepts of diversity and inclusion, and addressing the pressing issue of gender-based violence. It has been grounding work, shedding light on the importance of identity, diversity, and comprehensive case management in the critical field of clinical forensic medicine. This has been facilitating the tearing down of gender and identity biases, and creating an environment that's conducive to everyone involved. Another highlight has been my work with the dedicated nurses of the UNJANI Network. This has been a training on Intrauterine Device (IUD) insertion, empowering them with the skills to provide this essential service as part of primary health care, over-and-above the role of clinical mentorship to them. Yes, I may have been inactive on this platform, but rest assured, I've been very much present where it counts, engaging in transformative work. Because, at the end of the day, it's all about making a tangible difference in the world which is what drives my work. And I'm excited to share this journey with you all. Here's to transformative work, and the change we can affect, one human being at a time. #Healthcare #Diversity #Inclusion #GBV #Training #Transformation #Doctorsmakingadifference#HealingJustice

Believer. Physiotherapist. Team leader. UHC enthusiast. Rehabilitation 2030 advocate. Passionate about SDG 3. Avid reader. Loves learning. Lover of nature. Dedicated. Goal-driven. Optimist.
Speaking of the World Health Organization 2030 Rehabilitation Agenda, I believe a common thought especially for the lay population could be, "What exactly does it hope to achieve?" Or more still, "What is a Rehabilitation Workforce meant to achieve?" "What is the place of a rehabilitation workforce in the health system?" The Medical Rehabilitation profession consists of different professionals viz: Physiotherapists, Prosthetists and Orthotists, Speech therapists and Audiologists, and Occupational therapists. Other members of the rehabilitation workforce that can also be included are the technicians and assistants which can be attached to each of the aforementioned professions, rehabilitation doctors, and rehabilitation nurses. As with unexplored fields in human advancement, a lot of challenges are currently being faced especially in the area of raising a workforce able to effectively and efficiently serve the population. These challenges can be summarised under policies, health system, and complexity in understanding and implementing. Policies make things easier because it becomes something binding on everyone to abide by. With policies in place, things become a smoother ride. Pushing for favourable policies such as ones sponsoring the training and support of the various professions involved in rehabilitation medicine will go a long way in the World Health Organization Rehabilitation 2030 Agenda. Currently, rehabilitation professionals are lacking in many health facilities especially at the level of primary health. With the era of awareness of Universal Health Care and improving the services of Primary Health Care, hopefully, the structure of the health system will create an environment for the rehabilitation profession to thrive. Understanding the rehabilitation workforce can be quite complex as it seems as though the different professions are similar in their job descriptions. Hence, those involved in policy-making might not consider some of the nitty-gritty a professional in the field would. Involving rehabilitation professionals in important decisions as this is paramount if the right policies would be made. I am Dera Eleke. I am passionate about the SDG 3 and advancing the cause of physiotherapy and medical rehabilitation via advocacy, leadership, and research. #phc #rehabilitation #health #workforce #advocacy
