‘Less is more’ is a concept based in simplicity and how restraint can sometimes have more impact than something busier or ‘in your face’. Bryan-K. Lamonde discusses the art of designing ‘less’ and how he’s implemented that approach across the studio’s projects https://lnkd.in/eGrS4kTy
And not just designing a thing to be simpler and more elegant, but websites too... all those pop-ups are an assault on the senses.
Absolutely agree - it's a skill to be able to show restraint and make it look good.
Everyone can add more of everything to fill a page. It takes a great amount of skill to be able to cut off anything that is not needed.
An Art Director at IDG Sweden said they designed their magazines (which I illustrated for) deliberately to look busier/noisy to make readers feel they got a lot of information and entertainment when reading their mags. In other words -they were not WIRED magazine (which I woul love to illustrate for) who really give their readers a lot for their bucks.
Yet, this post is tremendously cluttered 🤷♂️
Everything does seem to be dialled up to 1000 these days. Like the world is screaming at you for attention from all sides!
I don't think it's a debate of loud or quiet. They are both a symptom of trying to be distinct.
Love this! So true.
